I was going to bring up the "golden years" of Walt Disney Records, too, Ben, but didn't want to stray too far off the thread--but it does illustrate the fact that, at one time, there was a great committment to the music, with alot of varying material being released--sure, there were some clunkers, but not every release is going to "go gold," that's just part of the music business--but the people involved were committed to having the music heard, and willing to take that chance--that interest and dedication just isn't there now.
As you also brought up, Disney did make a brief attempt at re-releasing some of the material of the "golden years, but only scratched the surface with Randy's Archive Series, because as Randy himself said, as you also mentioned, music stores didn't know how to catalogue the Ukele Ike title, for example, and that was part of the reason the series failed. Once again, the committment wasn't there to re-group and solve the problem.
It just comes down to, if you aren't talking multi-million dollar sales, no one at the Walt Disney Company is home. Mike.
