Re: The Wonderful World of Dave O'Neal

Something else I was thinking about...

I'm afraid that if Disney did decide to pursue this and put a stop to it, and other fan produced video/music compilations, I don't know if Disney could do better. They have not had the best record in taking something somebody else was doing and refining it. Look at Anchor Bay. They had a deal where they released many of Disney's "B pictures". Disney took notice after a while that there was money being made, and they took the film library back from Anchor Bay and started releasing this stuff themselves. After a while though, it just dried right up. They dropped the ball. There are other instances of this. Apparently the new "Imagineering the Magic" DVD that was just released at Disneyland is a pretty poor product and the Walt Disney Treasures release "Disneyland, Secrets, Stories, and Magic" is much better.

So, Imagineering has tried it's own hand at a "behind the scenes" fan DVD, and apparently failed at it. On the one hand, if the fan sources dry up due to legal reprocussions, we might not get better product from the company. On the other hand, I hate to see people cheating the system and selling things they really shouldn't be, especially when some get punished while others get a free pass...and even invited into the house!

Basically, I don't know which is worse...somebody like Dave O'Neal abusing the system, or missing out on thorough attraction homages that the company would surely not be capable of doing on their own....

Re: The Wonderful World of Dave O'Neal

I will be REALLY bummed if the IMAGINEERING DVD is a waste. I didn't much like the DISNEYLAND: SECRET STORIES AND MAGIC doc. The REST of that WD TREASURE was awesome.

Yeah, you definitely have a point. It would be a shame if all fan produced stuff was shut down. Martin does an excellent job, and they're free. RU42's are nice as well. I've heard Jeff Lange's are nice. Dave's DOCUMENTARIES don't really have the best ride-thrus, but he does get some really great interviews. And I do wish he'd just stick to making documentaries and knock of selling the copyrighted audio and video.

It is so strange that Disney is incapable of making really well done behind the scenes stuff. I can understand why they don't make MORE, but the ones they do make aren't very good.

Agree with all of these and will add the Jeff Lange's DVD's are very well done as well. Plenty of very good to great quality ride throughs. Check out his Epcot 25th anniversary series.

Have bought all but 1 of RU42's DVD's and for the most part they're great.

I bought a handful of the EAC dvd's when they first started but stopped buying quite awhile ago. While the documentaries are often good, the production is much poorer than you would think in many cases. Aspect ratios that don't match throughout the video, uneven sound and then the blantent copyright infringement of using Disney copyrighted media/clips. Martin does a much better job at the whole documentary thing...if I could just track down larger resolution versions I'd be a very happy camper.

What someone should do is buy all of Dave's DVDs, make copies, and then sell them on eBay for half the price. I'll betcha' Dave would suddenly find religion with concern to theft.
This is a great idea!

I was just looking at his Carousel of Progress 4CD set that is for sale. Can someone fill me in on how "Eureka - A California Parade," "Disney's California Adventure - Soarin," "Seasons of the Vine Medley," "America Sings," and "Superstar Limo," to name a few, are related to Carousel of Progress?

I was looking through other CDs for sale, and some of the track titles, with the posted times, were somewhat interesting. For example, does anyone know what these "master" tracks are:

I love the way Amazon ripped off the look of his website.
I love how he doesn't even bother to rename audio files.
I love how, to be more lazy, he takes a screenshot of the playlist instead of actually typing it out!

LOL, I was thinking the exact same thing! I'm SURE he would have a problem if somebody was selling "his" material....ironic...

I love the way they pimp their site via Amazon. Read some of the reviews of Disney books where EAC goes in and reviews the book with this statement:

"We found this book to be a great re-source in our research for our historical DVDs that cover Disneyland and Disney World featuring interviews with Disney legends like Art Linkletter, Roy Disney, Bob Gurr and other amazing Disney Legends.

We recomend this book!!"
The best thing about this specific quote is that its for a book that hasn't even been released yet. Interesting way to go about drumming up business for your charity.

Why thank you! :D I do my best.

The highest res versions are at Rodentsections as torrent files, at 720x576 (newer ones) or 640x480 (older ones) - I will get to HD one day, but with the older footage there isn`t much point. The divx files at Rodentsections are at the same res as my original edits, just (carefully) compressed for space saving.

I've pretty much downloaded everything of yours I can from Rodentsections over the last couple of years...I think the whole resolution thing has to do with my HD TV. Nothing every looks completely perfect unless is it in HD.

Again, thanks for the great work and sharing these.

Re: The Wonderful World of Dave O'Neal

I'd like to echo stevek's comment; I just watched Martin's (marni1971) Epcot 25th tribute on a flight this week and really appreciated the both of them. Thanks, Martin!

Re: Extinct Attractions Question

This one's for you Bill, be sure to check out this live webcam of David O'Neal working in his studio. Maybe you could drop him a line too :p

And I find the one in the bottom-right funny, cuz it's not even a live shot it's just recorded from when I was experimenting with setting up time-lapses of the innoventions construction, another disney related material that's not supposed to be public but why not it looks cool on his site =P

[Start of merged topic 4007 "EAC Starts Theme Park Audio Downloading Service" dated January 2009 - 09:46 PM to April 27 2010 03:42 PM —Admin]

Just recieved this little message from our friend David Oneal:

Hello Club Members,

Big NEWS! Extinct Attractions now has a new look, and a new service that you are going to love! ExtinctAttractions.com has been re-done, and in addition to the new look and feel of the site, we now have a new Theme Park Audio download club.

The Theme Park Audio Download section is the new way to enjoy hundreds of rare theme park tracks. Music, Ride throughs, speils, and rare audio from Disneyland, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and more!

The best part about this offer, is that our new audio site grows all the time... We are constantly adding new material to the site all the time.

So when you sign up today, you get to download what is up on the site now, and then the next time you come back, there will be even more great audio to download. We add new content all the time.

The way it works is so simple. You simply go to our web page ExtinctAttractions.com.

Click on audio downloads. On that page you can hear lots of great audio tracks in a nifty little audio player. Then click on sign up.

After you check out, the automatic system will e-mail you, your login and password. It's 100% automatic, and then you can visit the members only site and choose what you would like to listen to.

Once you download the file, it will open automatically in your music player. Either iTunes, windows media player or other popular audio players.
Now we have talked time and time again about EAC gets away with selling stuff that A ) they don't own and B ) is freely available online. But truth be told that isn't what worries me. What worries me is that some of that stuff that has been freely available online is stuff I've recorded. And seperate from any legal issues which, frankly, I'd rather stay out of, the idea of someone else making money off the time and effort I've spent recording things worries me. Even I myself have never and would never attempt to make money off of the audio I've recorded (except perhaps live or binaural recordings, which, in my opinion, is kind of a different thing, much like home video). This is one of the main reasons I've stopped distributing my recordings online.

So the question becomes, how can we look out for each other and ensure that such things don't happen?

Even Amazon is getting ripped off by this clown! :(

Amazon:

Matching MP3 logos (the idiot even forgot to remove the ™ symbol), matching music players photo, matching service text and icons. Unreal! :p

Who wants to be the first to e-mail copyright@amazon.com? ;)

Are these the full mp3 downloads or are they just downloading a stream for you to listen to without getting any of the files?

That's not really different than any other online radio thing disney fans have made and it's certainly better than him making money off of it. Only issue then is him including a file that someone recorded that they didn't want shared or something but not much that can be done about that. I don't really have issue with the site being another audio download site like any of the others out there it's just when he was charging oblivious people for stuff that was free that was really upsetting.

That said it doesn't change the kind of person he is and doesn't make it any more appealing for me to visit a site of his but at least this snippet of what he does is less objectionable.

If someone wants to try to see what amazon does, go for it ;)

I wish there was a way to view the library list, to see if any of my recordings are available.

As suspected, Almandot, there is a (recurring) monthly fee of $19.99 to listen to the stream. This guy doesn't do anything unless he can charge for it.

How does the community feel about those individuals who sell their home videos for profit? Since Disney doesn't seem to care about any of this, perhaps I should start capitalizing on my hobby. ;)

Huh? ;)

Huh? :p

Where are you guys getting the idea that this is a streaming radio station? His ad clearly states that these are downloads.

"The Theme Park Audio Download section." "Once you download the file, it will open automatically in your music player." And, as stolen from Amazon, "Music Downloads for Any Device. Downloads instantly to iTunes Library / Windows Media Player."

Sounds pretty clear to me.
