Ordering "A Musical History of Disneyland"

Disney probably figured that even with the VULTURES, a lot of 5000 LE would probably be enough to satisfy us. It was incredibly nice of them to offer this set up to us for purchase online. ( Even if it did set up a this problem) They could have just sold them exclusively at the park to lure us there. That being said, I do think they should have put a limit of ONE per customer for the first week of sales. Just to give everyone a fair shake at getting one. And if for no other reason, to stop someone from purchasing a sizable portion to sell on EBAY right away. And I betcha someone has bought 100 copies. Or more. Maybe more than one someone. It's a collectible, and will be sought after. I can't really blame folks who just want to make a buck for doing so. I know I've been grateful to Ebay on a number of occasions for providing me a means to get a sold out collectible. But what does bother me, is when fellow DISNEY FANS behave in a selfish, un-Disneylike manner. Purchasing an extra copy for yourself to archive is one thing, purchasing them to sell later is another. You may have prevented someone like yourself from getting a most desired collectible. And that feels rotten. I've stood in line behind fellow Disney fans before to purchase something and watched person after person buy multiple copies, and leave me with nothing. And I'm certain it will happen again, probably when I'm standing in line with my little daughter who won't understand why there aren't anymore. So for a Disney fan to behave like the average Ebay Powerseller makes me sad. And for a Disney fan to gloat or condone this behavior is even worse. Disney itself could have prevented this, but as it was pointed out, they are trying to make money. Whether or not I actually get the GOLD VINYL or not, I will enjoy the discs and the book just as much. And if I dont get the GOLD VINYL, I won't hold a grudge against those who hogged the LE for the sake of a few bucks. But I do hope you run into someone who didn't get the collectible they were after and see the sadness in their eyes. Maybe next time, you'll think about that before you buy multiple copies just to make a buck.

Nope, I was at the Park Tuesday. Also, I had the best luck there to, right as I was buying my 2 copies, Bruce Gordon walks in and he was nice enough to sign the book from my set (Im defently keeping that set for my collection), and the cds sound great. I bought an extra copy to sell to help pay for the one Im keeping. There is nothing wrong with that and it also helps get it out to more fans. Thanks again for advertising my auction.

How does it help get it out to more fans? People who could have bought it at $125 now have to pay more then that if they want to buy it on ebay.

I don't think the issue with most is seeing copies on eBay. I think the issue is people who purchase 5 or more copies (didn't I read earlier someone learned about one who bought 25...?) with the assumed intent to make a profit for themselves on eBay. I personally don't have a problem with someone buying two, but five is a little nuts. Of course, some will say they're buying an extra copy or three for other Disney nuts, which may be true. But if the intent on the part of Disney fans and collectors is to share the joy over helping profiteers likely gouge others financially, I prefer a conservative limit on purchases, 2 max.

That said, I'm a frequent eBay customer, and appreciate what I can get over eBay when I can't find something I want any other way. It's just sad to hear that Disney is selling scores of copies of this collection to single purchasers right off the bat. At least, it's sad to me. Of course, not everyone.

On a positive note, at least the sets will still be available after the initial 5000 LEs are sold out. The point is to hear the music, not go broke doing it.
:)

I hate to post twice in a row, but Randy Thorton just released a post saying that due to the ordering volume they would be make a SPECIAL EDITION which is open ended of this set. The difference is that instead of GOLD VINYL you get BLACK VINYL for the record. And the Special Edition won't be numbered. I'd say this should make anybody who can't get the LE feel better. I know it makes me feel better. I'd bet it doesn't make folks who bought MULTIPLE sets to sell feel better. And that makes me feel even better. So I know I'll get a record with my set.

Exactly, Steve!

And in response to the previous poster who said he bought extra sets to sell because he was "just as money grubbing as any other red-blooded American", I am proud to say that I am ONE American who isn't "money grubbing" at all :)

Thankfully, Randy and WDR have created a "Special Edition" which will help everyone who wants the vinyl get the vinyl. Hopefully this will also help keep those e-bay re-sell prices down! ;)

Okay, I bought one extra copy for resale, big deal. I bought my limit of 2 which was set by Disneyland who has the largest amount of the ones with the gold vinyl avaible, one extra from the place with the largest inventory, that requires admission to enter to buy and therefore excludes the general public, not a big deal in my mind. Someone saying someone bought 25 from the only place the general public can buy it, is in my mind. And as I said before, I bought one extra to help pay for the set Im keeping (collecting Disney isnt cheap). I may have pervented a single copy from being sold to someone else, I dont know it if would have been to someone looking for a set of themself, or another seller looking for an extra one for them to sell, cant just assume Im the only one trying to sell one 2nd hand. The point is about selling them, everyone has an opinion and thats fine, they just shouldnt attack other people for following their thoughts and opinions. I respect everyones opinions about how they shouldnt be bought to be resold becuase other people may have missed out. There are people, however, that may not have even learned about this set untill after it sold out and would want to have a copy, are they any less deserving for owning a copy becuase they learned about it later? Several times I have bought items from ebay that I couldnt find anywhere else becuase they were sold out and I really appricate all the ebay sellers for selling items helping people get what they want. I know that if its something I want, Ill get it, no matter if I have to pay over the original cost, its my choice.

In response to MagicalPins...

Please don't feel like you are being attacked. Someone buying one extra copy to sell is not really the problem here. Especially since you actually went to the park. And especially since your main objective was to help pay for your own set. The problem is people buying several copies online and through Disney Direct. Like 25. That is outright piggish, selfish, money-grubbing behavior. And Disney should have imposed a limit there the way they did in the park. And frankly, now that a special edition is available only the REAL collectors will be upset if they can't get the Gold Vinyl, and I would be very surprised if they weren't among the very first buyers anyway.

Some of us can barely afford the one copy at retail. EBay horders are yet another example of the rich getting richer while the not-quite-so-rich get nuttin'.

I can see myself doing the two copy thing if I had the money to do so, but the guy who bought 25 is pond scum.

To change topics slightly, the cd set is sold out again. It no longer pulls up in a "Disneyland" search and you can only find it when searching the 61499 item number. Even then it says "This item is not available"

Yeah - I noticed my status changed from "at distribution" to "backordered" which I was expecting since the set I ordered was from the "4 weeks for delivery" group. Can't wait to get this set!

Hope everyone enjoys theirs! Looking forward to hearing the comments.

I just ordered my copy of the LE from Disney Direct, but it took speaking to four different people to find someone who could help me. She had to backorder it for delivery sometime in the middle of May, but assures me it will be the LE. (One person claimed it wouldn't go on sale until next week. Another one said it didn't exist. Finally someone knew what she was talking about.) Also, when I spoke with someone on the catalog ordering, she wouldn't apply the free shipping, but when I followed the directions for to go to internet ordering she DID apply the free shipping. Mine ended up being $135.00 with tax. Just keep with it if you are still trying to purchase your copy. They can still help you - if you find the right cast member!!

It is amazing that the Disney sales-person even mentioned to a customer how many copies some other customer may have bought. This is very un-businesslike, and obviously can create bad vibes. Especially since I happen to know that this customer bought his sets for a closed group of 23 Disney-fanatical friends, and none of them have ebay aspirations, so lets not be too hasty with the name-calling, please...

If that's the case, then that's wonderful. You have to admit it's a natural anxiety that to hear of such a large quantity purchase like that would raise concerns like we/I did, being such an eager group who each want to get our own copy. So again, congrats to the lucky LE buyers.

Just checked and the status of my order is still "at distribution center". According to the overview my order date was Apr 26 2005 06:30:52. So all those lucky enough to have already received the shipping confirmation - what was your order date? That information might help all of us still waiting get a feeling when we can expect our sets to be shipped ...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Ok, I just had a rather scary experience. A few minutes ago, I checked my order status on the web. It had always been "At Distribuition Center", but this time it came up "Out of stock/discontinued".  Nooooo!!!!

I jumped on the phone and called DisneyDirect. They assured me that I do indeed still have a copy back ordered and that the web is not reporting the proper status. I asked if the web would ever show the proper status for my order and was told that it might eventually, but they could not promise it. My order had to be placed twice due to a software problem of some sort, and this seems to have really confused the system. The good news is that it looks like I will still get a copy, but this is not doing good things for my nerves (LOL).

On the plus side, the person I dealt with was very nice and very understanding about my concerns with this. I really feel sorry for the cast members at DisneyDirect. This whole thing must be a real challenging situation for them. To their credit, I have yet to talk to any one there who has been anythiing but helpful, polite and pleasant.
