Thanks for your kind words. It's nice to be seen .

==========

Danny-

Thanks but somehow, I just don't think that would impress Ghost Host very much, either .

Absolutely nothing. Of course, with your background, I'm sure that you relate to a CD like that much more than I do. But you brought up a very good point...so I hereby change my sentence to read:

But sometimes I question where I need to draw the line when I've got CDs of cover versions sung by old people, entirely in French. HAHAHAHA!

Good try, but there is NO WAY that parade would EVER grow on me. Not in a bezillion years. EWww. Yuck. Gross. Sucky. Have I made myself clear enough yet?

Only thing worse than Spectrovomit is the current 3 o'clock parade.

Pleased ta meetcha!

May I qualify that with, "except when it just premiered and had nice, long show stops?" The current truncated version doesn't do much for me. But when Share A Dream had just started, I thought it was pretty good.

Hunter's Creek, huh? Hmmm, you must be a regular in the parks. Love your SuperTarget, BTW. :)

Our SuperTarget is OK but I like our Cracker Barrel much more. Will like them BOTH much more when they complete the F-ing construction all over OBT. And I think The Loop, on JYP and Osceola is gonna have them ALL beat....we're getting a Marble Slab Creamery there AND a Ben & Jerry's in the upcoming strip mall just south of the Greeneway! How cool is THAT?!?!?!

As for the parades...My biggest complaint is lack of time for the crosswalks to open . Anyway, I fell in love with "Remember the Magic" and it's going to take a LOT for anything else, stateside, to impress me. TDL can do it, why can't we?

Oh yeah....money.

Sigh.

==========

Bill-

Oh. You're back.

OK....hugs and kisses are over...hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.

Anyway, hey, you collect your Disney music YOUR way and I'll collect my Disney music MY way. I HAVE them...that doesn't mean I have to listen to them. Especially the bad stuff .

Oh, and Toxic Audio used to give out these really cool CD cellophane rippers that even breaks the hermetic adhesive seal. You can open a CD (if you so desire) in one fell swoop.

You went to Japan too? Cool bean! Where'd you go? We visited Kyoto, Nara (HAD to go to Nara Dreamland this time), Hiroshima, Nagoya (World Expo was in nearby Aichi), Hakone, Tokyo Disneyland Resort (5 days, 6 nights) and Tokyo. I've got a trip report, with pictures, in the making if you (or anyone else) wants to see...I'm in the midst of page 7 (of 20) but it's VERY photo-heavy. Like "even if you have high-speed, go make your lunch while the page loads" photo-heavy. We're going back in 5 years...TDLR, especially TDS, is just TOO good to never see again.

Sharon,

I would love to see the trip report ... just last week it worked out that I will go to Tokyo this August (I know, I know, highest high season, longest possible lines - but it was a unique opportunity ) for the first time, so any advice is welcome.

In case you still need webspace to save your many, many photos for the trip report online: try out Clickmagique's PicParade, it's a free photo sharing service for Disney theme park related photos. While most of the material is from DLRP your TDR photos (as well as photos from any other resort) certainly would be welcome too - registration and use is free and comes with 50 MB webspace at http://pp.mousekingdom.com/

Thanks but I have a (paid) Photobucket account, so I've got unlimited space.

The daily journal (I refuse to call it a blog...even though I have it on a blog website) was for our whole trip, not just TDL. I still have about a weeks' worth of entries to finish up (read: add pictures and more stories and snippets) before I get up to that part of the vacation. Do you want to read it all or just the TDL stuff?

Joe_in_Japan might be able to give a more learned opinion, but I wonder if TDL in August would be that much more crowded than any other time of the year. Kids go to school 11 or 12 months out of the year...vacation time is set more by holidays...I would say avoid weekends moreso than worrying about the summer? But I could be totally off base.

You have TDLR's official website, right? And Joe_in_Japan's website is WONDERFUL. Where are you staying? We stayed in the Hotel Miracosta....WOW!

Sharon,

the whole trip was only decided about and organized last week - so rather short notice. I had originally planned to go last year for a longer holiday but then had to cancel due to my job (finished studies and got a job right away, something I had not expected). Then I planned to go after ToT opened ... well, till a friend asked me last week, whether I would want to join him for a short one-week trip early August ... and I couldn't resist ;)

Well due to it being high season we were unable to get any room in the MiraCosta as it is solidly booked acording to the reservation hotline. We are now staying at the Sheraton in the Resort.

I certainly will update you after my trip about all the details ... hopefully I even come around to write something. Now I only need to get a new camera and save some extra money for all the TDR-CDs that I miss in my collection.

We are there for one week only, so it is 4 days resort and 1 1/2 days Tokyo, as it is my first trip to Japan. But I already hope to go back and spend some more time seing the actualy country. Therefore I would love to see the full report of yours.

Thanks for mentioning the two websites - I did visit both of them already.

Tell you what...when I have the whole site done, I'll post the URL here, okeedoke?

BTW, word of advice...try to go to The Disney Store in Ikspiari, which is the shopping area a few hundred feet away from Maihama Station. They had a few Disney CDs that I didn't see at the parks themselves. They also have a lot of their own merchandise....too much of which was Stitch and Pooh-related, but beggars can't be choosers . And they had Orange Bird merchandise! THAT just blew my mind .

Also...when at the parks, especially TDS, take advantage of Fast Passes and when the park is open at nighttime...for us, the parks slowed down during the last 2 or 3 hours every night (they generally closed at 9pm when we were there), because so many of the guests are locals who take the train in...and they want to get home at a decent hour.

Thanks for the advice - I will try to make use of FP as much as I can and I look forward to the nighttime ... not the least because of the fireworks / shows / parades in the two parks.

I have also been told to head for Tomorrowland right when TDL opens if I want to score a ticket for a show in the theater there as they go fastest. Haven't checked yet what they actually show there this summer but will try to do that too.

The Disney Store in Ikspiari is definitely on my list. I have also been told to check out the book store there, which is supposed to have a huuuuuge Disney section and also sells some kind of TDR magazine and its backissues. One of them is supposed to cover only Disneyland Resort Paris, most issues concentrate on one theme / attraction / land of TDR and then also throw in related stuff from the other resorts worldwide. While all in Japanese, according to my friend the magazine often includes not in the US / Europe released photos from "our" resorts. So I will look for that too.

Can't wait to read your report...

FWIW...."One Man's Dream II" will be the show in Tomorrowland. It didn't premiere all that long ago and it's EXTREMELY popular, as was "One Man's Dream." We were able to essentially "walk in," but we were WAY in the back (which was still "good enough"). Anyway...VERY good show, so yes, DEFINITELY try to see it.

"BraveSEAmo," OTOH, is a different story...it's very, shall we say, "Japanese." As someone from the US, I just didn't get it.

DreamLights = VERY good. VERY reminscent of MSEP, but with better floats. Make sure you look at the park map for the route, since it's not the basic "up or down Main Street" route.

Sorry....I didn't look at the books in the bookstore, since I couldn't read them .

OT: TDR magazines

I'm just guessing from the description, but this kinda sounds like the "Disney Resort Story" magazines that came out in 2002-3. It was a series of 30 beautifully-done magazines, and each issue had a particular theme, usually some aspect of the Tokyo parks, but some of them were about the "foreign" resorts. I'm too lazy to get up and check :), but I'm pretty sure that there was one issue dedicated to DLRP.

There also is the "My Tokyo Disney Resort" series, but I don't believe any of those cover things outside of the Japanese parks (at least, none of the ones I have do).

It does sound like "Disney Resort Story". It's a nice magazine because UNLIKE most Japanese magazines, the photos are large. Typical Japanese graphic design places dozens of TINY pictures with lots of text. Another nice feature of this magazine is that it includes a reproduction of an attraction poster which is printed on a heavy duty celluloid so that it can be lit from behind.

Another great magazine, for collectors, is Disney Fan. It's a monthly, again, large format which exhaustively covers what merchandise is available at the park in any given month or for any given event. What the menus are at the restaurants. There is sheet music for a Disney songs in every issue. Even gives you dance instructions so that you can dance the OFFICIAL dance at Disney parades and shows. It also covers what CDs, etc are to be released and even has a section on the Overseas Parks.

Meanwhile, we're losing our measly quarterly, Disney Magazine.

Thanks for all your help!

I will certainly report back once I have returned. Can't wait to buy many, many, many TDR-CDs

About "BraveSEAmo": heared the same from a friend in the UK. I guess it really is targeting the Japanese tastes. But hey, there is always the fireworks over at TDL. Nevertheless I plan to get the CD for my collection.

Dirk,

Just as a heads up...I don't think Sharon mentioned this....maybe she's a millionaire. The prices for EVERYTHING in Tokyo Disneyland are exorbitant. I always go there expecting to buy tons of stuff and return with relatively little. Even just buying postcards is expensive.

I was also really disappointed in the lack of good merchandise at Tokyo Disney Sea. I expected to find some good ride related stuff from Journey to the Center of the Earth and the Nautilus. I came away with some postcards and some handkerchiefs (still big in Japan for some reason). Would you believe they don't have a good picture book dedicated to TDS?

I'm not upset that I saw BraviSEAmo...it's just the whole fire and water and nature and I don't know what the hell was going on and there's no narrative . I AM glad that I didn't give up anything else to see it though . Oh, and don't get too excited about the fireworks....we got the impression that the Japanese don't "do" many fireworks, so they're impressed (genuine "Oooo's and "Ahhhhh's" and mouths agape) with what we would consider to be very little.

Ghost Host-

Nope, my husband and I are not a millionaires, though we did our homework ahead of time and we knew what we were getting ourselves into, pricewise. We also saved for the trip for about 10 years, so we paid for the Business Class airfare completely with frequent flyer miles and used "points" to stay at the Tokyo Westin. FWIW, we found that although we could pay a LOT more at the hotels, most of the meals in the parks were only slightly higher than the meals in the parks at WDW and most of the souveniers were roughly the same price as what we'd find at a Disney park here. I didn't mention the prices because that's not what we were discussing...we were talking about "what to see at TDLR." I didn't mention where you can get free refills on drinks or where to buy a KitKat candy bar in Japan either...but I have that information, should the conversation steer in that direction.

Oh and speaking of souveniers, I'm not sure when you went to TDLR, but we saw LOTS of attraction-specific and land-specific merchandise. Resin statues, picture frames, T-shirts, etc. I took pictures of every 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea piece of merchandise I could find, if you'd like to see them.

Oh, and the handkerchiefs are always popular because Japanese bathrooms don't offer paper towels to dry your hands with...people traditionally bring their own. I guess if a non-Japanese didn't wash his hands after he went to the bathroom, he wouldn't notice.
