The Official Albums for 2008!

Well I called WDW Mail Order yesterday to order my copy. The woman knew exactly what album I was reffering to, and of course said that they didn't have them and probably wouldn't for another 2-3 weeks acording to the computer. I mentioned I'd heard they were already popping up in the parks but she said none of them had gone on sale yet and that people have been calling them all the time asking for it over the last couple of days. So I have it on backorder. I guess it's still faster than me driving 2000 miles down to Orlando.

how akward =P do we all have illegally prereleased copies of WDW's? Randy and Walt Disney Records should sue Disney =D coke vs coke zero style =D

Here is an update on the situation in Florida:

The CDs are sitting in the warehouse right now. Anyone at WDW Mail Order who says they don't have any in the warehouse or that they won't get any for 2-3 weeks is either misinformed or telling you something other than the truth.

What is really strange, however, is that additional CDs are not scheduled to be distributed to the World of Disney store until some time between April 24 and May 24. No other WDW locations are currently on the distribution list.

Even more strange is that while you are welcome to call WDW Mail Order and place an order for the Official Album right now, your CD will not actually ship out until it once again becomes available for purchase at the World of Disney store. Your order will be placed on "backorder" status until some time after April 24 - even though the CDs are already in the warehouse.

The CDs were, of course, available for purchase at World of Disney from April 1 through April 8. Anyone saying that they have not gone on sale yet is, again, either misinformed or outright fibbing.

Just so you all know how Mail Order works is they actually have a person come and get the product from the stores stock and then take it to be shipped out, NOT from the Warehouse! Ive always found it odd why they do this, but chances are the reason World of Disney is out is because aside from the few copies people bought, most of their stock could have been depleated from Mail Orders for an item only one store carries at the moment. However I would guess other stores (Emporium, Mouse Gear etc.) will gradually get them in within the next couple weeks as well.

Thanks for the update.....that is disturbing. When I placed my order last week they said nothing about backorder, just 5-10 days shipping. I will have to check my credit card to see if it has taken a WDW hit.

...chances are the reason World of Disney is out is because aside from the few copies people bought, most of their stock could have been depleated from Mail Orders for an item only one store carries at the moment.

They're out only because they're apparently not in any hurry to restock. See below.

I would guess other stores (Emporium, Mouse Gear etc.) will gradually get them in within the next couple weeks as well.

One of the things that the Mail Order people can do is to tell you which stores on property have a particular item in stock. You're looking for a hard to find shirt, for example, and they can look in the computer and tell you that it's currently available at Sir Mickey's in the Magic Kingdom and at Zawadi Marketplace at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

If you call WDW Mail Order right now, and speak to someone who knows, they'll tell you that the CD is sitting in the warehouse, and that the computer shows World of Disney as the only store currently on the distribution list, and that it is scheduled for delivery some time between April 24 and May 24.

I will be in WDW from 4/19 to 4/26. I plan to go to downtown on 4/20 for some shopping. I may have to make a trip back over there before I leave to get the CD, if it does become available on 4/24 or after. I will let you guys know if I get a copy.

And not to bitch and moan about disney park music more, but how can they not release stuff because they think there's a lack of demand and then it sells out in a week and they won't ship more to the stores. Didn't the events cd disappear for a short bit too after it was released?

And maybe the 24th will be the final solution to the missing disneyland cd as well. I hope not, I'd rather it go out tuesday, well i'd rather it go out when the wdw did but apparently they're picky :p

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (DLR)...

I called DLR DelivEars yesterday. The conversation went something like this:

--

Me: Hi, I'd like to order the new Official Album.

Operator:
The old one that I have, or the new one?

Me: The new one.

Operator: We don't have any of those.

Me: Can I put it on backorder?

Operator: No, not until we have them in stock [NOTE: Which would defeat the purpose of backorder, now wouldn't it?]

Me: Ok...when will you have them in stock.

Operator: I don't know.

Me: Um, okay, I guess I'll call again some other time.

--

I guess by order of comparison, at least at WDW they at least know what's going on (somewhat) and will put them on backorder. I do find the comments above interesting though as my WDWMO person told me that no stores had them yet, though I knew that wasn't the case.

Operator: I don't know.

What you need is a SKU number from jerm.

But you're not going to get one ... because he has been "erased" by E.A.R.S. (Eliminate And Repress Squad), a team of Black Operatives employed by Disney Merchandise.

Though it?s completely out of my control, I still feel bad that you all have had such a difficult time finding the Disneyland album. I did say in my original post (on this thread) that the date I had was April 8, but that it didn?t mean it would be out on the shelves then. FWIW, the image Jerm showed is indeed the cover. My guess is that he just had great timing and found it. As often happens in retail, the merchandisers will hold off on new editions of the same title until they sell out of what they have in stock of the previous edition. I?ve seen it many times with DVDs as well as CDs at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Tower Records*.

I don?t know if will help you any, but here is the Product Number and the UPC for the Disneyland Album ?

Product Number
D000169602

UPC Number
050087118952

Also, several of you (and others across the many Disney Boards) have asked if these albums will be available on iTunes. That?ll be a nope. The Parks want them as exclusives that you can only get there. That?s also why you won?t see them at regular retail either.

Once again, sorry for the frustration.

Randy

*For those of you too young to remember, Tower Records was a store dedicated to CD?s. It was, what us old folks used to refer to as, a ?Record Store?. That?s right! There used to be shops solely dedicated to CDs and music. It?s true! There was a time?.?

I just dislike the lying aspect to it all. It's supposed to be disney and I know as a corporation they do things like a business but the whole "we don't know anything, we haven't received it yet" is so disingenuous.

But thank you randy. I'm gonna go and innocently ask if they can look up a UPC number for me and see if it shows any in stock and THEN ask about the new album and see if I get thrown out or some magical moment =P

almandot, I doubt anyone is really lying to you. I think you are assuming that communication is better than it is. Chances are, the people who are saying they don't know anything really don't. I know that the frontline CM's are almost never told when to expect something new like this, and in the case of the Music shop, it may be their first shift there! As for the Mail Order CM's, I dunno, I guess they could lie and say that they don't know because any other answer may just cause more confusion down the line if what they tell you doesn't happen. Whatever the reason, they don't have any control and are probably just trying not to cause waves.

I agree with X-S wholeheartedly. Honestly, I really don?t think it?s a ?lying issue?. I think the front line folks just don?t know. With all the merchandise the cast members have to deal with, keeping track of one CD could be easily overlooked in one form or another.

Tower Records (RIP) rocked. I spent many weekends driving up the the Hollywood Tower Records and then visited all of the great independent stores on Melrose. Lots of $'s spent buying the latest 12" vinyl New Wave releases...those were the days.

Thanks for posting the SKU and stuff for the Disneyland OA. Also, for the info on "Just One Dream". I didn't know it was a one album deal...interesting.

Now that you're posting...care to wander over to the Extinct Attractions/Dave O'Neal topic??? :)

Thanks for posting the SKU and stuff for the Disneyland OA.

Just so there is no confusion, Randy did not post the SKU, he posted WDR's product number and the UPC.

I have no idea what DL's SKU is for the Disneyland Official Album, but I know that WDW's SKU (40012824648) is totally unrelated to WDR's product number (D000170402) and the UPC (0 50087-11904 1) for the Four Parks ? One World: Walt Disney World Official Album.

Numbers, numbers, numbers! please Disney, gives us an easy link to order these items. I don't mind calling for something I really want, but at least have a World of Disney online store where us New Englanders who only get to the parks once or twice a year can get their park music fix.

I don't mean to come across as accusing the front line people at the cash registers as lying to me even though I sound like I think it's a giant conspiracy with every single CM in the store out to get me. ;) They're just saying what's been made available to them and what they're told and I appreciate the time they spend helping me. But with the couple of leads and manager I've talked to it just seems to become a shadier story. =P

And while I've gone a few times now and talked with several CMs about it I've made sure that I never cross the line into harassing them over it. I'm generally someone you'd perceive as the quiet nice kid and I'd never get confrontational or accusational to someone over a CD sale, and it's never gone beyond some light-hearted inquiring, mentioning someone had been sold the CD a little over a week ago, etc... We live in a youtube world and they kinda got caught selling one =P A release date, or even an "we're not sure it depends how fast current supplies go" for the fans who take the time to ask and likely own the old one isn't going to hinder the sales of the old one to the unsuspecting casual visitors(slightly disingenuous still though in that most of those casual visitors would probably rather have the submarine voyage on their souvenir cd than all aboard the mine train).

/I wonder how many would have to be bought for them to be satisfied though.. heh. If I bought like 20 and sold them on ebay just to recoup a little of the costs would it make an impact. (That's over $400 bucks so obviously ha not happening.. And wtf laughingplace sells them for 50 bucks. jesus =P)
//Or better yet buy as many as I can, then return them in 14 days unopened. Ya they'd be real happy with me ;)

is the new version of Tomorrow's Child on the CD (I'd heard a new version was being done) if so is it the whole song, the older version when released on official albums always left off a verse.
