OT: Disney DVD goes Full-frame

I thought I got away from these discussion when I left the hometheaterforum behind...heh.....Its sad to say that this is the way its done. Unfortunately people really dont get the fact of Aspect Ratios J6Ps really dont take notice that the fact of the matter is....Rarely ANY movie theater you walk into these days has a 4:3 ratio Screen....

1 way to get throught o people...is While they are watching there 4:3 screen...Get big ole pieces of cardboard and slap them to the left and ride portions of the screen....When they ask what in the world you are doing....Just explain to them that its the same thing as insisting on watching a 1.85/1 or 2.35/1 Pan and Scam copy cropped to fit there 4:3 sets :) Unfortunately thats not an logical way to get through to the marketing Dept. at Disney home entertainment...

I dont understand how people cant "get" the black bar concept...then there are those people that just dont want to get it.....::sigh:::

Well that kind of makes sense in a way. I think the big thing about it is that there are 2 extremes to this arguement and no one is willing to understand the plight of the companies during these times. Obviously the old saying "you cant please everyone all of the time" holds true. Personally I dont agree with fullframe pan and scam version but sometimes you have to take a look at it from the point of the Studios...Either way they have someone up their butt about something. Would you rather they do this with movies like the Lion King? At least its Snow dogs and movies that really arent considered classics. I think its a good first step approach..Hopefully they wont keep with it though. Your screwed if you do screwed if you dont. Its a lose lose situation with the studios no matter which side of the fence you sit on.

Well they start out with titles like SNOW DOGS and MAX KEEBLE, then they tell us that customers would rather have 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA in full-frame. Disney has made movies available in both wide-screen and full-frame on the same dvd before, without loosing the ever valuable special feature "FULL CHARACTER COLOR ARTWORK ON DISC". Why can't they do the same now?

Why not listen to their reasoning first....Everyone is overreacting before we even see anything...I dont condone P+S by any stretch of the imagination and I'm an avid HT enthusiast but I think there are more postive ways to Channel Anger than over PS VS OAR. This is why I left the Hometheater Forum because every Discussion turned into one of these debates. Its so annoying. Yes they have put Full Frame and Widescreen on various discs. DVD quality has come a long way. Not as many compression Artifacts than its 1997 debut....Companies are more concerned with Quality (Generally speaking of course, yes I know this can be argued) Than what they can cram on the disc (hence 2/3/4 and even 5 Disc Sets).

Damien,

I undederstand your leaving the HTF, I wasn't allowed on due to my criticism of the owner, But anyway, I only introduced the subject here, with argument because I would like any and every person with an interest in DISNEY that this "criminal" act was being portrayed. i have yet to see THE JOURNEYOF NATTY GANN in its 2:35 aspect ratio, with DVD I thought I would, but now I find out that I have to wait again. They don't show the movie on ZoogDisney, yet they are marketing it to the ZoogDisney crowd, by not letterboxing it.

here's an update:

just surfing around the net, came upon a link at DVDTalk in reference to Natty Gann, so I checked it out.

It appears that The Journey of Natty Gann, King of the Grizzlies, The Biscuit Eater, Rascal, and Chettah will all street next week in full-frame only.

They suggested checking out DVDEmpire where you can check out both the front and back of the DVD, and on each one, it states FULLFRAME 1.33:1.

I, for one, was really looking forward to getting Natty Gann, but since there is nothing special about the release, I will just catch it on HBO or Encore.

It does appear that Disney will be releasing THE ROOKIE in dual widescreen and fullframe formats this fall.

I have made up my mind. I am not going to buy any disney DVDs that don't respect the original aspect ration.
Don't you think it's terrible that they will CUT the sides of SLEEPING BEAUTY? I won't support that, definitely, by spending my time and money at all.
This are sad news.
