New 6-CD Disneyland Set: odd noise in Carousel of Progress Tracks?

Actually I was kinda glad to hear the Pleasure Island vocals even though they didn't make it into the final attraction. I had the rest of that music so this was a bonus.

My one complaint would center on the 20,000 Leagues cue. This cue had NOTHING to do with the 20,000 Leagues Walkthrough and was just a Tomorrowland background cue. The 2 minute Thurl Ravenscroft narration track would have been far more appropriate.

Yeah Randy mentioned something about the Actual music from the film (being what was used in the attraction) was not legally available for release, so the Tomorrowland 2055 piece was substituted. And I guess to the majority of the listeners, this track says 20K far more than the narration would.

"And I guess to the majority of the listeners, this track says 20K far more than the narration would. "

I'd also bet he was banking on most guests not even remembering the walthrough and what it sounded like, so this track would be a good substitute.

I do like the set a lot, moreso than I dislike it. However, I agree with most of the criticism here (except the Tiki Room, which sounds ok to my ears). The things that stick out as annoyances are:

1. The Mark Twain narration, with it's Rivers of America or whatever background music playing...especially at inappropriate times (like when the narrator is talking about Indian burial grounds and the happy music starts up again).

2. The Carousel of Progress noise. I'm sorry, but that high-pitched tone just ruins the track for me and makes my head hurt. It's very hard for me to listen to that track anymore.

3. The 20K track...it's too bad the original score couldn't be used. I'd rather have had nothing than had a "poser" track, sorry.

4. The sound of the motor on the Columbia track. This made the track so strange to listen to. It sounds like a motor boat, not a sailing ship.

5. The "Sooner or Later" section in the Splash Mountain track. I know it was there for maybe a month, but it's not what most people have heard. I can let that one slide though, since Randy said he's going to put the current version in later OA's.

6. Ok, this one might ruffle some feathers, and it's only my opinion, but...I wish the Golden Horseshoe Revue was not on this set. It's the only show on the whole set, so it breaks the theme somewhat. It's also 31 minutes that could have been used for more attraction music. Not to mention the full show is availible on the Wonderland Music Store kiosks. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show, but wish the space on the CD set was taken up by something we don't already have.

Other than that, I'm happy with the set, and I do listen to it often. There are some true gems on there, like the score to America the Beautiful, and Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. I also like the Fantasyland Darkride Suite, even if it's not all inclusive.

From a value standpoint, it was more appropriate for me to get the Golden Horseshoe Revue on this set and not have to pay $35 for a single CD featuring just that show.

The walkthrough narration for 20,000 Leagues does circulate and it does have music more apprporiate to the film underscoring it than this cue since it starts with the beginning of Kirk Douglas singing "Whale Of A Tale" and then the sound of the Nemo organ when the narration reaches that point through the end.

You do have a point, but I still stand by my opinion that it could have been left off. I would have gladly traded that for American Journeys, Wonders of China, more area music, or a Disneyland Railroad ride-through.

I'd also toss the Mellomen track in with stuff that could have been left, as well as some of the other "live performances". Mainly because they are available elsewhere and don't remind me really of going to the park, as they do "listening to a park CD".

Whoah! Where are you buying your Wonderland Music CD's? They are under $15 dollars at the park? What shipping service adds $20 to the price?

Are you serious, they're now under $15?? If so, I'm seriously going to have to go on a binge on my next trip!

I somewhat agree with you about the "live performance" tracks. I do think they add to the atmosphere of the set, but I wish they were new things, not stuff from previous records. Especially things like "Minnie's Yoo Hoo", which has been on every official album since...forever. I'm just glad "Swanee River" wasn't included! I'm SO tired of that track showing up on OA's! I do like "Date Nite at Disneyland", and the "Disneyland Band" selection.

That would be LaughingPlace. I think their prices are way to high for things. I guess it's not easy to get some of the things they sell, but I just order from DelivEars if I really want something.

If you listen to the Splash Mountain track, I think you can hear that high pitched noise at the start of sooner or later and also when the vultures start talking. Maybe it comes from some sort of transfer from the master tapes?

Its really fun thats it there, I really like it and Id never heard it before. But I can even see why it wasnt used in the attraction.

Im not sure it was ever used though, Ive been riding Splash since the beginning and I dont remember it ever being in the attraction.

Hey anyone who is listening for the High Pitched sound in COP, In scene one it starts at the part where Father says "Mother, I was just reading about a fella named Tom Edison..."

About the reverb, The place it REALLY annoys me is in Tiki Room, its a little too strong....I understand wanting to create the illusion of watching it in the room....but in the BACK of the room? Im cool with the rest of it...it isnt intrusive....to me at least...but Tiki Room....yeah....

And how can anyone complain about the Fantasyland suite!? What a delighful track....I love hearing the unused portions of the Alice score and the voices in the Pleasure Island scene....these arent ride thrus why should they match up to anything, Its a soundtrack. Most of that stuff loops anyway....

All in all The box set is amazing and I cant wait to See what Randy does for WDW :D

ex-wdi, could you be specific about the exact page numbers and pieces of art that are wrongly credited in the book? I'd like to be able to print out a list and stick it inside the book just for future reference. Thanks!

What parts of the Fantasyland Dark Ride suite are "alternate" or "unused"? The only part that I didn't recognize is the vocal for Pleasure Island, from teh Pinocchio section. Everything else sounds very familiar to me.

Gee I hate to broach this possibility but....

there doesn't seem to be any high pitched sound on my copy of Carousel of Progress...at least not around the spot mentioned above in Act One. If anyone else cares to mention specific places i can check those too, but perhaps it's only a flaw on some copies.
