New 6-CD Disneyland Set: odd noise in Carousel of Progress Tracks?

Has anyone else noticed the high-pitched sound that appears at intervals in the Carousel of Progress tracks on the new Disneyland 6 CD set?

Kind of a drag?
Yes.
Particularly after reading Randy Thornton's post about how he worked so carefully to restore the tracks after they finally found them.
My original Disneyland Forever CD sounds better!

Besides being better done, the second round of CoP Forever tracks aren't drowning in that awful stereo reverb that plagues most of the box set tracks.

So you've noticed that as well? I understand Thornton wanted to make the tracks more closely replicate the experience of actually being in the rooms with the sound, but I find the "hollow" aspect of the vocals to be very distracting--they lack the immediacy of the "solid" sound from the earlier CDs.

I didn't notice this high pitched sound. Can anyone give me an example of a time listing when it appears?

If there's any noise going on there, it's not enough to distract me. The Carousel of Progress track sounds terrific to my ears.

On the same note, I love the reverb applied here and there throughout the set. It helps bring the tracks alive for me. Such decisions may not exactly fit every last individual's taste, but I couldn't be happier with the boxed set.

That's great. I'm glad you like the box set.

I find it very hard to listen to most tracks. The overdone stereo reverb ruins nearly everything for me.

Yeah, I think this boxed set is the greatest thing I've ever heard. For me, what's important about any music is not the technical aspects, but how it effects me emotionally. It's an intangible that either works for you, or doesn't. The mixes on the DL box set put me right there on the rides with my family, and all the emotions come flooding in and I wind up with a big grin on my face. We're having fun listening to it in the car, while drawing and painting...just about any fun situation.

In its own way, it's creating a whole new set of happy memories for my family and me as we listen to it together and relive past park visits...and plan new ones! :)

Someone had complained about reverb on this and other releases before. Being technically ignorant about this sort of thing, I didn't realize what they meant by reverb. But with so much complaining, I figured that it was major distortion or something. To find out later that it was simply the slight echo to make it sound like your "in theater", I'm relieved. I understand that a lot of folks prefer the "clean audio" with as little manipulation as possible, and I guess given my choice, I would to. But the reverb by no means makes any of it difficult to listen to for me. I mean, I don't even notice it. Besides the fact that most of the tracks that people have complained about the reverb on, have been released before without all of that. But of course, to each his own.

The Tiki Room track, to name but one example, answers the age-old question: "Hey, I wonder what this attraction would sound like in a locker-room?"

Personally, that doesn't tug at any particular emotions, but it does have me reaching for the Excedrin. As I said, I'm happy you're happy.

"... this boxed set is the greatest thing (you've) ever heard"? Goodness, we need to FedEx you some Gershwin right away! ;)

I think that's a bit of an exagerration.

I find the reverb distracting, but it doesn't ruin the set for me. It's interesting to compare it to the pirate 13-CD set which used to be available online.

It's nice to have BOTH.

But, the high-pitched sound in Carousel of Progress is not a stylistic choice--it's an error.

On another note (and please don't take any of this to mean that I don't thoroughly enjoy the official 6 CD set, which is terrific), Randy made a conscious decision not to include narration on some of the tracks, relying entirely on the music. I find the trip around Disneyland on the Disneyland Railroad included on the 13 CD set to be wonderfully nostalgic, and the entire ride-through of Indiana Jones, including much of the que soundtrack, is a delight. The 13 CD set reflects another person's approach to the same sort of project (though without having only 6 CDs to do it), and I am very grateful to have both (as well as my collection of original Disneyland Forever CDs, which have much material on neither the 6 nor 13 CD sets).

There are plenty of "stylistic choice" errors. Such as the choice of non-attraction music on the Mark Twain track and the never-used, wrong cues on the Fantasyland dark ride medley. How about Thornton not bothering to include PeopleMover narration because he found it "boring"? Huh?

But again, it appears that the vast majority of listeners are happy with the box set which is just fine.

As far as current eBay prices indicating that there is still overwhelming interest in the set, I don't think it shows that at all. I think we'll see the box wasting away at Virgin, Tower and Best Buy for $50 and less by Christmas.

Anyone who wants a LE of the box can easily locate one without resorting to eBay. We all did our part and bought the thing, but I think it's a bit early to call the box set a "success," at least from a sales standpoint.

Personally, i really like the way the 6 cd set version of CoP sounds....and for those of you that dont have a surround sound system.....get one.....this and many other tracks...really come alive and put u there in the attraction when heard in surround sound....i closed my eyes during the CoP track....i felt like i was there when i was 10 years old

Howard Hawks - how about showing some respect - it's Mister Thornton to you, buddy. And if all you plan on doing here is negatively criticising, do it somewhere else...

I've noticed the noise too. The mix itself I think is better than the DLF version, but that noise is just really annoying.

I'm gonna have to agree with Howard on this. I don't like how there is music in the mix that isn't on the ride, its kinda pointless.

Well, it may be fine for them, but I like to buy sets to have the ultimate (lossless) quality. But if future sets are experimental instead of accurate, I won't be interested in buying them since there isn't much new or just strange to what we have on previous releases.
