The WHY Series - Episode I

Hiya Horizons!

It was part of the song file I received. Like ?Three Caballeros?, I had 2 files ? the song itself and the Load Cue (which I specifically asked for). The song was one of the tracks that I received already mixed (like Reflections of China) and according to the music publishing documentation, it?s all one piece. When there is more than one musical cue in a piece, the music publishing documents are broken down similar to ?

The Lamb Star Song (3:25)
a. Mary (Martin) Had a Little Lamb (2:07)
b. Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (1:18)

And for ?Canada? all the timings checked out perfectly for each of the two cues.

Heh, and on that note of Randy counterparts I was at the Newport Film Festival the other night with cast TV for Roy Disney's thing and we interviewed David Bossert, who when describing his job and stuff like working on the restoration of sleeping beauty kinda reminded me of Randy's work but for movies, only I'm sure he has a much less challenging task convincing people of the benefit of restoring and releasing stuff like that. :p I think they misrepresented what exactly he does though it didn't seem like quite a match the more I looked into it.

Thanks for the response Randy it pretty much answers my question. I gathered by your first post that this was the case but figured I'd ask a little more detail on it. I get what you're saying for how you decided to meld the parts together, something I like avoiding but you do that stuff for a living and I don't. ;) Nice to be able to ask the person who put it together what was up with it though, only time something like that has bugged me is with Electrical Parade since it stops me from being able to loop things cleanly.
Timing between the loops aside it is still kinda weird they handed you tracks with some timing variations from the ride(the timing of when certain lines are said during the vocals not matching the ride that I mentioned in the other thread). It seems weird they'd give a mix of the music to represent the ride without being authentic to the ride. They do it all the time with rehearsal cds with badly glued together loops, and it creeps its way onto published releases like illuminations missing a bar of music on the cd when compared to the show.

Thanks again for the reply.

Oh, and I just noticed the "This is imagineering week on the studio lot!" presentations[cast member only thing].. will you be there at all for any of them by chance Randy?

Wow, this was an unexpected thread of explanations from Randy. I don't have the new OA yet, but wow... Randy, thanks for taking the time to explain all this stuff. I'm not sure I understand (or even want to understand) all the musical jargon and the like, but I'm appreciative of the passion you have shown and the time you take to explain this stuff to us.

I tried for several years to make the original Rio Del Tiempo work ('cause Trent asked me for it). But I just couldn't.
Oh, so you DID try to make it happen? And here I thought you had forgotten or didn't think El Rio deserved to be featured on CD. 8) Okay, so now I'm just waiting for you to work with WDW Entertainment on that Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue CD (or at least a track?) for it's 35th anniversary next year! The Electrical Water Pageant hasn't made it on an official album yet and it's 35th anniversary was last year. For these two beloved, decades-old attractions not to get the limelight just because they are outside the four parks is a shame. The Hoop-Dee-Doo has played longer now than Disneyland's Golden Horseshoe played (although the horseshoe did 5 shows a day vs. Hoop-Dee-Doo's 3 shows). But I think you've heard this all from me before! Not to worry though, I don't think I'll start the petition quite yet. :-\ :'( ;) Wouldn't it be neat if Walt Disney Records produced a Hoop-Dee-Doo album similar to the old Golden Horseshoe album with Annette? Maybe we could get Ashley Tisdale and Miley Cyrus to be special guests? Quick! I think they are all at WDW this weekend filming the Disney Channel games.

P.S. I really enjoyed your write-up Randy, thanks for posting it. Looking forward to future episodes.

Yeah, I thought that too, but hey, I would have settled for the catchy theme song. The rest of the attraction was kinda boring, LOL!

Trentino, I'm fairly sure the Electrical Water Pagent got an LP release (I'm talking vinyl here) back in the 70s. Could just be my memory failing me though.

Well, yes, it did, but it was the same soundtrack as the MSEP in the early years. I think the two versions after that have never been seen or heard outside of bay lake. I would love to have either of the later versions on CD.

Randy--

Is there any chance that we will see the Official Album on iTunes for those of us Disney fans that cannot make it out to WDW or DL this year?

I believe that I posted this before, but I couldn't find it, so I probably imagined the whole thing. Wouldn't be the first time.

The Official Albums are Park Exclusives. We produce these albums specifically for the Park Merchandisers in much the same way we produce exclusive albums for any other client. Because they are exclusives, we cannot sell them through any other outlet. This is one of those things that will not change. At the moment, the only 'Park Material' that could make its way to iTunes, would be items like the old EPCOT Center Album - as all of those tracks are now obsolete. But current Official Albums will remain available only at The Parks.

Apparently, this years album (for WDW anyway) appears to be so exclusive that it must only be available to high ranking members of The Illuminati. Even then, you better know the secret handshake.

Sorry for the bad joke at what must be a frustrating situation. I have done what I can through The Office, but it's completely out of our hands. Once they're shipped from the plants, they're The Merchandisers property. Wish there was something more I could do. I'm just as baffled as you are.

Thoughts on the Future -
As I've mentioned in several posts over the last year or so, I believe that the CD will eventually go away - fewer and fewer are being manufactured every year. The last hold-out will be products like the Official Albums (souvenirs). It'll be interesting to see what the future holds for them - is it a download service you plug into at the parks (a multi-platform nightmare), a flash-type memory card (no instant access), or is it something totally different (direct aural implant)? Who knows. But it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I'm still holding out for your jiggling throat rendition of Sister Suffragette.

We're clearly soldiers in petticoats
And dauntless crusaders for woman's votes
Though we adore men individually
We agree that as a group they're rather stupid!
