The Official Albums for 2008!

I am thrilled at the new track list. I planned to get this anyway on my trip to WDW in April 08, but I am even more excited now. Thanks so much for all your hard work Randy, and keeping us informed here.

I will be in Downtown Disney on April 9th and with the release date being the 8th I wonder what are my odds that it will be there the next day? I also wonder if they will be sent to the parks first or DTD?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Also if anyone could or would be willing to get me a copy of the Disneyland CD and I could paypal them the money plus shipping and whatever please PM me.

Thanks
Dusty

An OA with MORE Bruce Broughton and NO Mary Martin...and people are celebrating?!

I guess I'll just have to start looking forward to next year's OA. Guess I'd better step up the email and petition campaign...it evidently pays off. Cough cough.

Randy said this:

"As I alluded to in the ?History of the Official Album? thread back on February 15th, there may not be an updated Official Album next year."

Actually, Mary Martin IS on the album. You just have to figure out a way to play the CD backwards. It's a bit creepy, but oddly fitting!

Randy

The Mary Martin thing is a running joke between Bill and I. Long story.

Mary Martin did several albums for us (Walt Disney Records) but she didn't do anything for the parks (that I'm aware of).

So far, I've only released one of Mary's albums on iTunes (and Wonderland [R.I.P]), but there's a few more that are just waiting to be released again ;D! Just think - All Mary, All the Time. Only 999,999 dreams left to go.

Thanks for the update, Randy. Looks like some great additions, and I sure won't miss the subractions!

You said:
"I hear rumblings of a new Official Album (or a real Official Album) for Paris. It doesn't look like I will be involved, but I offered my services if I can help in any way. It's possible that Hong Kong may also be in line for an album. But this is nothing more that idle chatter until I see or hear anything more substantial."

I sure hope they go through with it. Like Dirk said, DLRP hasn't really had a good official album. The attraction mixes they've used have been pretty poor. Most of the things they include these days on the park CD's hasn't even been heard in the park in years, or was part of a special event. There really needs to be actuall attraction music and current things guests hear at the parks.

As for Hong Kong Disneyland....well, now that It's a Small World is opening up, I guess they MIGHT have enough to fill out an album, but only if they include parade and fireworks music. Otherwise...it's going to be pretty short....especially if they don't include Mickey's Philharmagic for reasons Randy pointed out....

I just wanted to add my thanks to Randy for all his hard work and devotion to the subject, as well as his willingness to engage us in these forums. It's a rare thing and I, for one, appreciate it very much. This music is a subject near and dear to me, and is something the company overlooked for far too long. It's very good to know that someone on the inside is working towards the same goals as fans, and is trying to put out something of actual quality as opposed to something just to stock a shelf. These OAs have been quantum leaps in quality over the old issues, and they just get better and better each year. I can't wait to see what's coming in the future, if the company would just realize people want to give them money for this stuff.

And I wouldn't mind a chance to buy a physical version of those wonderful albums on iTunes, either...

But kudos Randy. Keep up the fantastic work. The new WDW album looks fantastic.

I forgot to add that I'm shocked that DLRP has never had an OA. I'm not sure how or why they would be reluctant to push that through...

Well, to their standards, they have had an official album...although not titled that. It's been released in various forms over the years, but is generally the same stuff. It's just that most of it is not really music heard in the parks (at least current anyway). Also, the attractions are woefully underrepresented. The only true attraction tracks they've released have been a bad Phantom Manor mix, a Pirates track, and It's a Small World. Other than that everything else has been not accurate representations of the attractions...like the Space Mountain (mission 1) score was not the on-ride audio, but the much slower queue version. There have been better releases from their audio press-kits, like part of the 20K walkthrough, and some others. Anyway, I digress....

I just wanted to second what MiklCraw4d said and thank you Randy! He said it better they I ever could. Now that I know what Randy looks like (thanks to that video) and if I ever saw him in passing, I could probably just giggle like an idiot. ;D

Nah according to WDWGuy's standards Bruce Boughton is a god. Randy is more like.. Hermes or something.

I count some of Paris' releases as official albums :p It's just that they focus on entertainment more and not so much attractions, whereas our OAs are the exact opposite :p But if stuff like Une Journee a Disneyland Paris doesn't count as an OA I don't know what does :p Though Paris has become defined by their singles releases along with the instrumental tracks.

Oh, I count it, but it's not a very good one, LOL!

EXACTLY!

I think one of the best tracks from DLRP isn't even on a DLRP CD, the Phantom Manor track off the HM anniversary CD! *le sigh*

Hey Randy:

I was just wondering what the plans were for putting these OAs on iTunes for those of us for whom there is NO CHANCE we're getting to DL or WDW anytime soon.

Also, I can NOT wait to get my hands on that Three Caballeros track, because (as I've said in the past on here) Three Caballeros is one of my FAVORITE movies.

Here's to another wonderful OA (I picked up the 1999 WDW OA recently in a "free CD" bin...)
