Disneyland Goes To The World's Fair

I've been working on creating jewel case inserts to go with the "Walt Disney at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair" unreleased 4-CD box set...
G2:

The official title of the project was "Disneyland Goes To The World's Fair." Prepared box artwork as well as the planned accompanying booklet attest to the fact.

Just thought you might like to know.

How exactly does it "attest to the fact" if the booklet has never shown up anywhere? Just where can one view the "prepared" artwork? I always imagined that some artwork/booklets had been created, but no one that I know has ever seen them, so a few of us collectors have been attempting to create artwork on our own, and we had no clue just what the 'official' title was. In a way, I'm glad the set wasn't released, because if the copy I got is the final version, it was sorely in need of restoration. The left/right channels had been reversed, and it was quite full of tape hiss. Typical of the shoddy work on vintage material that Disney has been releasing lately. Do they ever plan to release it? If so, I'll drop the project and wait for the official release.

I thought that you might wish to use the official title if you were going to the trouble of creating your own inserts, etc.

The box artwork and booklet layout do exist and utilize the "Disneyland Goes To The World's Fair" designation.

As is typical of such projects, several editions of the work-in-progress set were prepared. Each featured progressively cleaner sound and better editing. Perhaps you were working from one of the early collections of temporary dubs cobbled together from inferior sources.

The set will never be released if only because Ford will never license any of "their" material.

Best of luck!

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to imply that the artwork didn't exist, only that it has never appeared anywhere, and there wasn't much info to go on, not even the title. The original poster didn't have any additional info on the set either, only that it was unreleased, and nothing else was known about it. You wouldn't happen to have the final track listing, would you?

True, it very well may have been a copy from somewhere in mid-production. No way for me to tell, really. In any case, the set now sounds much better than it did when I got it.

My comments about the sound quality are based on some of the other releases that have come out recently, as several are sub-standard quality. Many have serious hiss problems that can be easily corrected, but instead were simply filtered a bit and released as is, or reconstructed with sloppy editing, etc.

I just wish that whoever smuggled the CDs had snagged a copy of the artwork as well! I'd love to know just what it's supposed to look like! I don't know if I'll continue with it or not. I probably won't finish it unless some more photos turn up.

I was doing jewel case artwork for mine as well. I got 3 done and lost interest once I got to Mr. Lincoln. Oh well. Fun to do anyway.

Nice CD cover! I keep meaning to make some for my copies of the CDs. For those interested, sample booklets and covers were prepared and were in the editing stage when the project was canceled. I made a minor contribution and was given a photocopy of the booklet but still need some good covers. Sorry, the booklet is buried away somewhere so please don't bug me for copies - no clue to where it is and no time to look.

As to ordering the Disney photo CD - I hope to get that on the web site soon, but I am updating my Zorro pages with news and pictures from the French DVD set so it will be a day or so more. The price will be $10 plus postage. Back when I get it updated!

I'm sorry GG maybe I misunderstood. Did you mean you worked on the Disney version of the boxed set? Or you cleaned up and released a cleaner version of the one that leaked out? I'm confused.

And never one to be outdone, here are 2 of my covers...

Yes, I cleaned up the one that leaked out. Your Small World cover is very much (almost exactly) the way I intended to do it, only I couldn't find a good scan of the children in the boat artwork.

GG - I'm sure your version (both sound quality & cd artwork) will be much better than what has been unofficially "released"... I've seen the box set mock up - and what you've shown so far is much better!

By the way - whatever happened to your Pirates cd?

(You know I don't do newsgroups....)

GG,

Disneyland sold 3 or 4 notecards of the NYWF Small world a few years ago. One had a rendering of the Show building (I used that inside the CD cover), another had a little cartoon layout of the attraction, with a flowing waterway surrounded by children (back cover). Both the Tower of the 4winds and the kids in the boat came from one of those cards. This was the one disc where I was actually able to get all of the images from one source, instead of scouring piles and piles of books. Actually there was one other image. I had a photo of the Shermans with thier wives in front of the Tower. It was beneath the disc so that when you lifted the disc you saw it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find clear Jewel cases, so bang went that idea....

Bill!! I'm shocked that you think I could make such a simple mistake as that! ;)

Actually that artwork came from the WD Imagineering book that came out several years ago. That big GE Logo on the building is part of the artwork I didn't put it on there. Now as to whether that's what the building actually looked like when it was built I can't definately say.

What makes you think it might be another building?

That is a very early concept for the Progressland pavilion......you can see the final show buildings design origins in that CD cover art......I think it was a John Hench redering, although I'm not positive. The Travelers Insurance building at the fair looked very similar to the Progressland Pavilion (it was a stylized umbrella --the company's logo) But the rendering on XS-Tec's cd cover clearly shows an early camela-dome of the "skydome-Spectacular" level and the support arms of the second level. The giant GE logo eventualy ended up on a tensil sign pole.
People always ask why this theater design was not used back at Disneyland; the Progressland structure was far too massive for Disneyland's Tomorrowland.
