I do have to say, that Marin Short is not nearly as annoying as I had assumed. Actually I didn't find him annoying at all. I almost always like Martin Short, especially when he's playing "Martin Short", instead of some high energy maniac. I think I was expecting the maniac- I thought he'd be constantly doing voices or shouting like Robin Williams or Jim Carrey. But he does play it low key. He's nice friendly and clean cut- ironically he's very Classic Disney.
The wierd defensive tone of the film still bothers me, and I think they took all the beauty out of the Canada song, but I no longer count Martin Short as one of the films liabilities.
Oh yeah, one last rant- am I the only one who can't stand the guy that does the voiceover at the beginning? Sounds to me like Corey Burton who has been doing narration for the more recent Goofy Cartoons (including the upcoming theatrical one). I remember first hearing his narration for Goofy cartoons on House of Mouse, and thinking how horrible it was- it was so unnatural sounding, whereas in the old Goofy cartoons the narrator didn't sound like he was putting on a fake voice. I guess the fact that Mr Burton keeps doing this voice, nobody at Disney minds it, but it sure bugs me. To my mind it makes the films seem very amatuerish, which of course House of Mouse was, but if Goofy's coming back to theaters, it would be nice to do it right.
