Alt.Binaries.... help

Having never used anything but MIRC, I cant honestly compare them.

But here was my experience with MIRC:

Having never used anything even remotely like this, I was nervous. After I downloaded the program, it took me maybe 5 minutes to get it set up and online.

Once I found the disney room (probably the hardest part of the whole process since I didnt know how/where to look), I asked for help from some of the people there. I got some (surprisingly not much was needed). Within about 5 minutes I had started downloading stuff. There are only about 4 commands you need to know, it really doesnt get much easier in my opinion.

Thats my 2 cents worth.

Re:Alt.Binaries.... help part 3

Hello everyone,

I need your help and advice again ... Ok, I have High speed now and using outlook express for the newsgroups, typed in the Charter.net newsgroup info and the multimedia groups recommended here and lo & behold different disney messages come up .... BUT when I click on them they come up w/ all these crazy unreadable words & symbols. I them click a group of them and use the menu up top to combine and decode .... still comes up with the same crazy letters and symbols.

Now, I'm ahead of where I was before but I still have not reach the motherload .... Can anyone help me move forward and attain the music I crave and love.

Thanks to all of you in advance.

Hi Chuck--

Not to make things more complicated but--

To get the most benefit out of the newsgroups using Outlook Express, you'll need to get a little program called yDecode. Most of the posts are yEncoded (that's what that little "yenc" means at the end of the header). Just Google "yDecode", it should come right up. Read through the documentation at the yDecode site, it will explain a lot of the details of all this to you.

The newsgroups are a great resource! Once you get it working, you'll be glad you did!

Hello,

I am on a PC using Windows XP and I am wondering if anyone here could recommend a program for accessing the newsgroups.

the Unison one seems to only be for people with Macs.
also, if anyone could suggest one that is easy to use for the beginner, and free, that would be a help.

thanks

Not to rain on anyone's parade or anything, but what are the legal ramifications of downloading from Newsgroups?

We've heard so much about file sharing programs and how music company lawyers are cracking down on people with cease and desist orders.

Aren't newsgroups subject to that kind of action?
