    Mono/Stereo

It varies wildly, as far as I can tell. Though they only end up in the parks as mono, there were stereo masters of many BGM tracks on the Forever kiosks.

Intrada Releases The Last Flight of Noah's Ark

Groovy! "Island on Top of the World" got a surprising lot of playtime at my house.

    The Music of Cars Land

I'm certain it was NOT done on purpose. This is just Disney woefully underestimating (again) just how much people want land / park / attraction specific merchandise.

Island at the Top of the World [Disney/Intrada]

No one much seemed to care about this here, but FYI, this is an awesome score, and the CD sounds great.

    Secrets of Life Soundtrack CD

Yeah, I think it was a Wonderland CD, burned on demand at the parks. When that ended, it made the transition to iTunes. If you want a physical copy, you'll have to find the LP.

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

It was rerecorded over the PHONE? So my "kettle and some string" theory wasn't that far off. I wonder if the mono vinyl was sourced from that lo-fi transfer of the original elements, or if it was pulled from a different tape.

It's the rubbish players that hurt vinyl's reputation in the past. It can actually sound amazing and often BETTER than CDs given a clear record and good equipment. As far as Fantasia's sound, I've got a feeling it was just recorded poorly. I mean, stereo sound in the 40s hardly even existed...
  8. The Trout

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

What's crazy about the Fantasia soundtrack is that every edition ever has sounded like CRAP. And this was at the height of RCA Living Stereo, Mercury Living Presence, Grammophone, Everest, etc. In comparison, the Fantasia classical recordings sound like they were recorded with a kettle and...

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

Well, nothing is perfect! And it WAS printed in 1997, so that's just before the internet was a major boon to research. The book is still an incredible resource and quick index, though. But man, they reissued Fantasia a ludicrous number of times. Yeesh.

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

The index lists "Fantasia" as being on no less than eleven different pages. Let's see what's there! Disneyland WDX "100" LP Series --- WDX-101: "Fantasia"; 3/1957; Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra; MST; Three LP Set; GF; Pastel Cover; Reprints Original Movie Program Booklet...

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

Whoa, slow down there, cowboy. If you read the thread, you'd know that I already apologized for the 2005 Musical History mistake. I did misread the book a little though. You're right that ST- was never used for Stereo. The bit of the book I was reading was confusing in that regard, but it...
  12. The Trout

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

Haha, yeah, and honestly, if you wanna REALLY research the Country Bear Jamboree, then you'll discover the variations: the LP and CD versions of the show have always had the 1971 version, minus Henry's shilling for Pepsi and Frito-Lay. But certain tracks were later rerecorded by different...
  13. The Trout

    Country Bear Jamboree Recordings

D'oh, you're right. Strange, I could've SWORE it was stereo the last time I heard it. Guess that'll teach me to trust my memory. Thus, for the record, the original show has never been released in stereo. Also, for the record, I'm a moron.

If you're gonna buy Disney vinyl on a regular basis, you NEED this book: :amazon: The Golden Age of Walt Disney Records 1933-1988 It's an index of every Disney recording ever released on vinyl, with catalog numbers, descriptions, and illustrations. It looks like I should have read more...

    Country Bear Tracks in Frontierland?

The CBJ vinyl was stereo (indeed, that's what the "ST-" part of ST-3994 means). By 1972, mono was nearly dead. While the attraction's soundtrack is in stereo, however, the Mile Long Bar tracks are still only mono. I assume that's just how they were mixed, probably since they were always...

Tokyo Disneyland: Treasures of Fantasy (1996 CD set)

TDL's WACKY Radio is actually almost the same as DL's version... in Japanese.

    The Black Hole [Disney/Intrada]

Brilliant! May the Disney / Intrada partnership be very, VERY long-lived. This is a classic score from a true master in his field.

Were the Rescuers Masters Really Destroyed?

It'd be sort of odd for Buddy to have the masters, but it's not unheard of. While it's a slightly different situation, Ian Anderson (leader of Jethro Tull) had the master tapes for "Aqualung" buried in his garage for over thirty years, instead of it being stored at the record company's vault...
