I am having a friend pick up some CD's for me on her upcoming visit to Disneyland. My question is about which CD's to get.

What is on the following CD's ?

1. Date Nite at Disneyland
2. Walt Disney Takes You to Disneyland
3. The Enchanted Tiki Room and the Adventurous Jungle Cruise

Any help is greatly appriciated!

Date Nite at Disneyland is one I'm not too familiar with. I know it contains the song Date Nite at Disneyland. I assume the whole album is similar in style. Lots of big band type music performed by the Elliot Brothers. Not sure of other titles.

Walt Disney takes you to Disneyland. This one goes through each land. Walt narrates a short intro to each land and then there's about 4-5 minutes of themed music by Camarata. The music was done just for the album and I don't believe was ever used in the Park.

The Enchanted Tiki Room and the Jungle Cruise Album- The Tiki Room track is to date the most complete "officially released" version of the show. There's also a hidden track of the Barker Bird. The Jungle Cruise track is narrated by Thurl "they're Grrreat" Ravenscroft as your skipper. Music is also by Camaratta.

"Date Night" is a live big band concert/dance recorded inside the Golden Horseshoe. The first track, "Let's Dance at Disneyland" is a jazz vocal group singing what amounts to a commercial jingle for Date Night, and is worth the price of the CD by itself. The rest is assorted swing and early rock numbers (some with solo vocals), complete with MC-ing and clowning around. Great cover, too. There's a song list at Francois's link.

The others are as described by X-S Tech. He didn't mention that the music backing up Thurl's Jungle Cruise narration was lifted straight from the Adventureland track on the "Walt Disney Takes You To Disneyland" LP. The music on the latter album was also used quite a bit as background on the Disneyland TV show IIRC, as well as on the Jiminy Cricket trip to Disneyland album released a couple years later.

Huh, Date Nite was recorded at the Golden Horseshoe, not Carnation Gardens? I just assumed it was Carnation because that's what's on the cover but perhaps it was an issue of Recording the performance outside vs in?

Bingo! Described as such in the liner notes. They had some problems with all the corn kernels in the piano . . .

yes, it mentions on the back on the album that "Date Nite" was recorded inside the Golden Horseshoe because of the beter acustics........I don't have the album at hand, but the last song on side two features an unplaned argument between a guy and his date.....you can hear the both of them yelling at each other!! "you said you were gonna dance with me all nite!!..........etc etc......" The original album back even mentions the fight that was picked up on the recording.

And there's a hidden track on the Tiki/Jungle Cruise??hmmmmmmm........where? I had to have my Tiki disc ripped twice.......maybe I didn't get it.

The hidden track is accessed by selecting track one and then using your scan button to back up into the dead space before the track. The "dead space" in this case contains the barker bird.

I've tried the scan button trick, but I still can't get to the Barker Bird. Is there a possibility it isn't on my cd?

Thanks!

If it's a genuine Wonderland Music CD, then it's on there. But it's very possible that your player can't access it. If it's an "unauthorized" copy, then it probably didn't get transferred.

I've noticed that a lot of DVD players in particular tend to get all snitty when you try to access the hidden track. My Toshiba, for instance, will only play part of it, while my Pioneer happily plays the whole thing.

On a computer, forget it. Nothing I've tried has worked.

Try it in a few "real" CD players--you'll get to hear it eventually.
