The Boxed Set that dare not speak it's name

Ok...so far there have been 2 mentions of the "Disneyland Project". I've been waiting for people to ask about it, but no one has. So here goes?

Does anyone know any more about this? Was it announced anywhere? Is this why we haven't seen the vintage park audio return to the kiosks?

Please....inquiring minds want to know.

Hello,
The Disneyland audio tracks are still scheduled to make a comeback. We are still waiting for wave 2 of the Wonderland re-issues to get installed (any day now) and more machines to appear at other DLR location. The return of the Disneyland audio will not be as before. The tracks will be compiled as full CDs (which is a good thing as there will be more material on each CD than if you were to buy 10 individual tracks per CD). Nothing has been finalized yet and we know how fast things can change, but that is still the plan. Also, the "Disneyland project" is not going to affect the separate availability of the Disneyland audio. That "project" is still being worked on (as you read this) and is VERY exciting. Can't wait for the detailes to be officially released so I can tell you about it. It will be worth the wait though. Unless anything changes in the last minute, this "project" will be everything everyone here would wish for. More later...

Hi, Bill:

Nothing regarding the project has been officially announced.

Last I checked, the plan is to release a comprehensive six-disc DL 50th package (with booklet) alongside a slimmed down two-disc edition of same. Nearly every attraction which utilized audio will be represented IF the lawyers let the thing happen at all.

Material never before digitized/transferred is scheduled to appear in addition to vastly superior sounding editions of previously issued tracks.

Typically, this is when someone chimes in with a "he has no idea what he's talking about!"... so, I'll stop now to allow him to do so (if he hasn't already!).

PS: Beware the sub-par flow-throughs. (Shudder!)

1313-

Here's the obligatory "You don't know what you're talking about" comment...

Now that it's out of the way, thanks for the info! Let's hope it materializes as planned!

Hello all,
Actually, nobody can claim that 1313 doesn't know what he is talking about, because he is on the right track! Those are some of the more basic facts of what is in the works. It is apparent that 1313 also knows someone on the inside. As he said, let's hope the lawyers don't mess this one up, becuase some AMAZING new ride-through's are done and more are in the works. If this is released as planned, you can say good-bye to the terrible (quality wise) old HM, SW, etc ride-throughs and hello to some restored elements versions. Also expect certain musical shows that people had complained here recently about to be completly remixed from scratch. Even some ride-throughs of attractions we have never heard before (as a complete ride-through) involving certain now-gone ride-throughs. I can tell you what NOT to expect: Fantasyland dark-ride throughs. It is legally possible but cost prohibited (but you never know). There should be some representation of the darkrides, but probably not a la HM ride-through. Like I said, details have yet to be finalized and we ARE running out of time. So hopefully a certain Imagineer will finish writting the book soon, and that everything goes through with the lawyers and we should all be very happy. We have never had better sounding DL soundtracks all in one place as we will very soon...
We can thanks a certain person at WDR for all his efforts on this one! Without him, this would probably be just another Official Album rehash from the folks at Florida's Merchandise.

Good to hear even more great news about this set... Yet again, let's hope the management types and the accountants don't screw it up...

"Even some ride-throughs of attractions we have never heard before (as a complete ride-through) involving certain now-gone ride-throughs"

Since so many Disneyland rides have had their audio released in the past, there doesn't seem too much that could fall into this category if we have to eliminate Fantasyland Dark Rides. The ones that come to my mind would be:

"Flight To The Moon"
"Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln" (1984-2001)

Obviously we won't see official confirmation at this time, but what are some other possibilities to speculate about?

Jungle Cruise
Why do we have to eliminate Fantasyland dark rides?

I was hinting more of Adventure thru Inner Space and Nature's Wonderland (someone guessed that one). Lincoln doesn't count as a ride-through but he will be represented (and I don't mean the NEW Lincoln). Not sure exactly what the Jungle Cruise will be like being that there is no narration, but we'll see...
Regarding the Fantasyland ride-thru's, when all the sound effects, vocal narrations, vocal singing, and music recordings were recorded, the contracts only allowed for playback at the parks. For complete ride-throughs to be a possibility, the lawyers would have to track down EVERY individual involved and sign new contracts. With many being dead and handled by their families, you can see how $$$ consuming a project of that magnitude would be. Like I said before, it is possible to do it, if Disney hired about 100 lawyers to finish in the next few months. The box set would then have to cost about 1,000 dollars each to pay for those fees. So, as you can see, it isn't likely to happen. An easier step would be to just license the music and have THAT appear on the set somehow. There is still some time left to work, so we'll see what happens.
I'd like to remind you all that this is still a work in progress and that things can always change (thanks to lawyers especially). There are some more details about the book that we will hear about in the near future...

Louis
