Star Wars Weekends [2009]

I spent a few hours this morning and evening at the Star Wars Weekend at DHS. I've recorded four of the loops used at this event and believe I have at least five more to go, assuming I try and record them all. I would have recorded at least two more this evening, but I got caught in a wicked storm and had to take cover for an hour and a half.

I've been working with thx99 in getting playlists put together. He was able to complete the main entrance loop and we both worked on, and completed, the loop that is used around Echo Lake and Commissary Lane.

So far, I'm somewhat disappointed with the loops. For example, the main entrance loop is less than 20 minutes. In fact, most of the loops I have recorded run 30 minutes or less. Given the vast amounts of material to draw from, it's disappointing the loops are so short, and, in some cases, material is not being used from the OST's. Jay will appreciate this. In one of the meet and greet loops, four tracks from Mickey Hart are used. How the heck does this music fit in with Star Wars?

I'll start putting the playlists up on my blog this weekend.

Mickey Hart Songs

- The Dancing Sorcerer
- Udu Chant
- Brainstorm
- Evening Samba

Having just taken a quick listen to the samples for the four Mickey Hart tracks, about the only similarity they have with the music of Star Wars is with a few cues from Return of the Jedi, specifically the Ewok village source music ("Ewok Feast/Part of the Tribe", track 11 on Disc 2).

The Ewoks were also Deadheads. Remember the pipe-smoking Ewok in the hut when C-3PO was telling the Rebels' story? Those little teddy bears were growing some giggle weed on the forest moon of Endor!

To be honest, the music fits in rather well. But still, why not pull from the available Star Wars music? It's not like there isn't a vast amount of music to choose from.

Four loops to go.

I agree, but I'm going there May 30,2009 so is there any thing I could possibly do to help? ;)

Some early observations from the 2010 event.

- It's very crowded

- The main entrance loop was changed, at least by cutting out Battle of the Heroes

- The WSWW radio loop/Storm Trooper dialog has also been modified. Last year, a second Storm Trooper only dialog loop played after the first one. I didn't hang out at the entrance to hear it, but I will make the confirmation next weekend.

- The Echo Lake loop appears to be tracking the same. I'll need to confirm if this also continues to play on Commissary Lane and by Boba's Bounty (which is the "Wicket's Warehouse" from last year's event). It still has the bad edits.

More to follow at some point...

Confirmed, although the loops are not synched together.

It is way busy today. Toy Story Mania has a 150 minute wait and we had to line up 70 minutes before the parade starts to get a seat in front. Stay away from DHS unless you're coming just for Star Wars.
