Special Edition Treasure Planet CD at DS?

Howdy Everyone,
As promised, I stopped by my local Disney Store and asked them if they knew if Treasure Planet would get a Disney Store exclusive CD release and not unexpectedly, they won't know until they open their shipment boxes. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything new.

I bought this title today -- not at the Disney store -- and I just want to say that James Newton Howard has outdone himself! A brilliant, beautifully performed and recorded, swashbuckling epic score (is that enough adjectives?). The first two tracks feature crappy pop songs -- and apparently there is some kind of cd-rom content, but I haven't tried it yet. Tracks 3 through 17 are pure orchestral score. Beautiful!!

Thanks for the score review--really looking forward to it, as we've loved James Newton Howard's previous work on Dinosaur and Atlantis. I stopped by our local Disney Store yesterday, and as almost expected, they didn't have the soundtrack yet, and they also didn't know if there was a special edition CD release or not--just unbelievable! Borders, next door, had it, but I wasn't prepared to pay their price of $18.99(surprisingly high!)! I'll see if I can find it somewhere else. Mike.

Tower Records has it for 13.99 for a limited time, then it goes back up to 18.99. As for the limited Edition Disney Store stuff, I tend to find the artwork on the cover and the disc itself is always better on the open editions. "Wow aren't Lenticulars cool?" Well they were. Nowadays I much prefer a beautiful picture to a blurry image that kind of moves.

Yeah, the lenticular thing is getting kind of old. It would be nice if they did something like the Fantasia 200 disc again, or maybe even a bonus track? Or, maybe even a specially commissioned cover only availible with that CD?
I realize that adding an extra track would raise production costs, because I'm sure it cost much less to just use the open-edition CD, and insert a card with a lenticular or holographic cover. Although look what happened with the new Harry Potter CD (And Star Wars Episode 2 for that matter), they have 5 different covers to choose from! There is bound to be one of the 5 that isn't as popular as the others and will end up in the clearance bins (Hagrid, anyone?). So, I think Disney could just produce a limited quanity of the latest movie CD's with an extra track or two, or a special cover just for the Disney Stores, and still make up for the production costs.

Don't see why there would be a reason for a special edition of Treasure Planet. I bought the limited Lilo & Stitch and got that super deluxe cover pic. Whoopee-doo, I consider myself lucky to have found a copy of the glorious special edition of Fantasia 2000. Now that is how you make a limited edition CD.
Oh, why I am writing is if you check out your local Walmart store, they have a limited time special on the Treasure Planet soundtrack. $11.98!!!!!! Brand new, can't beat that price anywhere unless you wait a year and a half. Disney music fans, don't delay, get it now!!!!

this CD finally is a MUST-HAVE once again... while the first two songs on the CD are not everybody's taste they are a positive step forward from the songs on the past soundtracks as they at least dare to move into unusual territory for Disney by being true rock songs - and they do work well in the movie too as I may point out.
But the majority of the CD's playing time is reserved for the score which is for me personally the best James Newton Howard has deilivered so far for Disney. I have to admit that I never grew warm for his work on Dinosaur and thought that Atlantis, while a lot better, still too often had a cold and calculated feeling. But this one - WOW! It really is an impressive score that manages to deliver every feeling standing in the tradition of the big Star Wars scores by John Williams, delivering what the audiences expects from an SF-score but never really copying. I'm really impressed and am currently playing the score surprisingly often on my stereo...
Oh and one last good note: the CD has a decent playing time ... something we haven't seen in the past with the way too short CDs of "Princes Diaries", "Lilo & Stitch Island Favorites", "Santa Claus 2", ...
