Somewhat O/T- Disney and Microsoft's new deal...

For those of you who don't scan the computer industry news or haven't seen some of the Disney sites yet, Disney and Microsoft announced a new deal to use Micorsoft's media formats for internet music/video/etc. by Disney.

Intertesting news considering that Quicktime is a much more open-standard with better quality and happens to be from Steve Jobs' other company Apple.... Combine that and the banning of Segways at WDW and you have whole new theories of hatred coming from the Dark Lord Eisner...

Oooo...since when are Segways banned at WDW? What'd I miss? Too many people get run over or is it a political move on someone's part?

What about CMs who ride Segways to work? (I know of one who does, on occasion)

I guess this'll put a damper on a new tour that WDW will be starting on Feb. 14th:

Around the World at Epcot --
on a Segway!

A brand new tour is being introduced in Epcot. Beginning February 14, 2004, you'll be able to travel Around the World at Epcot on a Segway, those futuristic-looking upright transportation devices on which you sometimes see Cast Members zipping around Epcot.

The tour, which will last two hours, will be offered daily at 8:45 a.m. The first hour of the tour will teach safety rules and allow you to practice riding the Segway, while the second hour will be a tour around World Showcase before it officially opens to visitors.

Cost for the new tour is $80 (park admission is NOT included).

Some restrictions apply: Minimum age is 16 (guardian must sign a waiver for ages 16 and 17), maximum weight for participants is 250 pounds, and expectant mothers and persons with special needs may not participate due to safety concerns.

A 15 percent discount will be available for AAA and Disney Vacation Club members, as well as Annual Passholders, Disney VISA cardholders, and Disney Cast Members. A photo ID will be required at the time of the tour.

I guess this means that they'll have to ban the use of Segways for this tour too? ;)

Nah, they'll just use the "Eisner" method of theme-park attractions and use loud rock-style music by a band that no has ever heard of and plywood cutouts of Segways in a dark room to fool the guests into thinking they are getting their money's worth... ;)

I don't think the tour is cancelled. They're just saying that people who own their own Segways ca't use them in the parks. I'm sure it was due to safety issues and potential lawsuits. The tour, which is 2 hours long, spends the first hour teaching people how to use them safely (so they can say the accident wasn't their fault...they TAUGHT the guest how to use it) and 1 hour touring World Showcase BEFORE IT OPENS (so there's MUCH less people to bang into).

FWIW, I think I'm going to get this for my husband and I for our anniversary .
