Hi, All:
The recent talk of iTunes had me considering a few things I'd like to see offered through the service, beyond the re-issuing of classic LPs (and I must say, having purchased some Wonderland titles in person at DL, downloading titles like Saludos Amigos and the Mouseketeer Serials have been well worth the wait!) I've been thinking more of isolated tracks, that may not fit particular collections, but could consist as a whole in the "singles" collections that have shown up for downloads. Sort of the "Walt Disney Treasures" series in audio!
Well, why not? There's now a comic book edition of the Treasures! Here's a few things I would enjoy downloading:
Donald Duck Theme (theatrical short version)
Jitterbug Score from the Donald short "Mr. Duck Steps Out"
The Simple Things from the Mickey short "The Simple Things"
A medley from the Goofy short "The Olympic Champ"
Opening Title Music from the Humphrey Bear short "Hooked Bear" (this was re-used in the 80s for WDHV promotions, and is very a fun and catchy little number)
"In the Bag" from the Humphrey Bear short
"The Love Bug" theme by George Bruns
Buddy Baker's soundtrack for "The Magic of Walt Disney World" (1972) This would be my must-have, it is perfect on every level. Even if it clocks in at 15-20 minutes total, I'd gladly pay $9.99!
And the other concept would be to introduce "A Musical History of Disneyland" to iTunes, as others have mentioned. BUT, add some new tracks for those of us who own the set already to augment the existing tracks. These can be bookended with the immersive, ambient sounds that Randy creatively utilized between each track to lead us into the next area, there are countless pieces of audio such as the "Mickey and Friends" organ medley to Dumbo (who never has had a theme park album track, I believe) to Frontierland area music and so on. This, like Disneyland itself, makes "A Musical History" something that will never quite be completed.
Oh, one more, the audio of "The Walt Disney Story" with or without narration (or both!) The central instrumental theme from the 2001 documentary "Walt: The Man Behind the Myth" would also be a great piece that is decidedly "Walt": powerful and poignant, as the man himself.
Just some ideas, and if the rights are available to any and all pieces of audio, Randy and the good folks at Walt Disney Records are welcome to take them and do some more great things! Thanks again, Randy for all your great work, and thanks to everyone posting here for always keeping this a board to nice place to visit!
