Sindbad's Storybook Voyage

Compass of your Heart?

I don't suppose there's any news on a release of the new soundtrack to TDS's Sindbad's Storybook Voyages..? When I was visiting Japan a few months after the ride's re-opening, I was surprised that it hadn't been published. It seems that all that's floating around are live recordings, which is a huge pity in my eyes... After all, it's one of the rare recent attractions with a memorable original song...

Re: Compass of your Heart?

Having just returned from Tokyo I can only second this. It is is a true pitty, that this memorable song hasn't been released. But then I had the overall impression that the Oriental Land Company did not put too much trust into the reworking of the ride. If they had I would have expected to find plush of the tiger cub all over the place - which was, very much to my surprise, not the case. But I have to admit the lines only slightly increased compared to my visit two years ago and they were trying stunts like including "surprise Fast Passes" for Sinbad with numerous FPs you received at other TDS attractions.

Anyway: the song is great and I hope for a release rather sooner than later. Since the original "TDS Music Album" featuring the theme songs of the ports and music from the various attractions is no longer available and the "replacement" (the "TDS 5th anniversary music album") does not include any music from rides (just excerpts of the shows and the port theme song) I was hoping for a new "TDS Music Album" release rather sooner than later...

Speaking about "Music Album" releases of TDR: the TDL Music Album was nowhere to be found in the shops so I have hopes that we might see an updated version of that one soon as well.

Re: Compass of your Heart?

As for Tokyo Disneyland, I do hope they come out with a new Music Album. The last one was in 2001, and there have been some additions since then. I have a feeling they may wait until Monster's Inc. Hide and Go Seek opens, but who knows. The 25th is next year, so that is perfect time for a new one.

I totally fell in love with Sindbad's Storybook Voyage, when I visited TDR for the very first time some four weeks ago. I say it honestly: I have never been moved to tears by ANY Disney attraction (with the exception of one firework show and one evening parade) - but in the Sindbad ride I nearly choked everytime, as I desperately tried to avoid the "niagara-falls-effect" of my eyes, as everything in the ride touched me so deeply.

A huge part of the magic of Sindbad's Storybook Voyage is in its gorgeous music. Menken's latest efforts in movie music have not been particularly memorable in my opinion, so I'm definitely not one of those people who regard everything by Menken as "magical". I think the Sindbad music sounds so good because it's both nostalgic (bowing to Menken's Little Mermaid era) but simultaneously being something totally fresh and vibrant in melody and orchestration. It's a small wonder that even though I didn't understand the Japanese lyrics of "Compass of Your Heart", the deep philosophy of the song managed to surface in the ride's visual narrative AND in the performance of the singers - the sincere Sindbad solos and the simply breathtaking choir (that sounds the biggest I've ever heard in any Disney attraction).

In other words, this is one the ride scores that would really deserve a proper release. I spent half an hour lying on the floor of a music store in Ikspiari while browsing through their extremely extensive Tokyo Disney CD collection, before finding the 2008 DisneySea compilation that included a ridethrough mix of Sindbad's Storybook Voyage. (Yes, this album was not sold at the park - at least four weeks ago).
