OT: Enchanted Tiki Room/Tropical Serenade Questions

Greetings -- couple Tiki Room questions for any historians out there.

1) In the original Walt Disney World Tropical Serenade (1971), what did the birds in the preshow discuss?

2) When Eastern Airlines dropped sponsorship of the Disneyland Enchanted Tiki Room (before Dole Pineapple picked up in the 70s), was any of the dialog re-recorded for the Tiki Gods in the Lanai preshow to what we hear today?

Thanks very much! :D

I'm sure you meant United Airlines, but I am less certain about the rest of your question.

If you are asking if the pre-show was changed multiple times, the answer is no. The lanai pre-show dialog was changed only once after United dropped sponsorship of the attraction.

Portions of the original pre-show referenced United Airlines. Here's the dialog as it appears on Disney Attraction Scripts.

MAUI: My name is Maui. Natives call me "The Mighty One." I tamed the playful sun and gave my people time. Now they set their clocks by mine, for I am tropic standard time.

KORO: Alooooooooha! Wahini mekyone mana (sp?). I am Koro--midnight dancer! Today my magic feet no move. My head sore! But last night, all tiki gods have big time. Some luau! When drums begin to pound, my head full--biiiiiiig sound!

TANGAROA-RU: They call me Tangaroa-Ru, the east wiiiiiiiind!

HINA: And I am Hina, goddess of rain.

TANGAROA-RU: My gentle breezes warm the tropic isles of Hawaii, all across the seven seeeeeeeeeeas.

HINA: Yet faster--faster even than the wind--the soaring birds of United Airlines fly there too.

TANGAROA-RU: And with extra care, especially for youuuuuuuuuu.

HINA: Come. There's an island for you in Hawaii, land of the warm wind, the sea, and me.

PELE: I am Pele, goddess of fire and volcanoes. Some say I torment poor Ngendi, the earth balancer, for when my violent temper rises, the earth trembles at its foundation!

NGENDI: Legends say I'm balancing the earth, but sad to say, I'm just hanging on.

PELE: I'm the one who's really sad. When I smile, it comes out mad!

RONGO: [Hawaiian chant] Me Rongo, god of agriculture. My land so good to me, I got time for sport. Me number one kite flier! But me like you. I want to fly. I see big jet, way up in sky. Smooth, like big bird. Hawaii flight! Now me, too, fly United. Throw away kite! [Repeat chant]

TANGAROA: [gong] I am Tangaroa, father of all gods and goddesses. Here in this land of enchantment, I appear before you as a mighty tree. Stand back! [gong] Oh, mystic powers, hear my call. From my limbs, let new life fall! [gong with chimes]

Plus, here is the announcement made before entering the Tiki Room.

Announcer: Wahine Makune Mana. Ladies and gentlemen, a small reminder before entering the Tiki Room. We ask you to refrain from smoking inside, and please, do not carry any food or drink into the Tiki Room. And, oh yes, no flash bulbs, please! Our performers are temperamental and easily upset. Thank you for your cooperation. And now ladies and gentlemen, United Airlines invites you to come with us, to a world of joyous song and wondrous miracles - Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room." [Gong]

The above transcript is accurate.

That preshow only ran at DL. The WDW preshow was entirely different featuring a conversation between two birds (one voiced by Dal McKennon). I have video of it and need to dig it out again sometime to do an accurate transcript.
