Wasted away again in Margaritaville...

Nibblin' on sponge cake,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those Disney tourists covered with oil.

I spent four hours in Margaritaville last night. Somebody owes me a couple of Boat Drinks... or at least a lousy Cheeseburger in Paradise!

Last seen at [topic=1444]Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge[/topic], DJ LMNOP (my new name for him) has struck again... and this time he's singing his ABCs over at Disney's Old Key West Resort!

My guess is that Old Key West has four CDs loaded into a commercial five-slot CD unit... as we actually go from A to Z three different times! Worse, the music changes radically, switching to a lengthy segment, that I'm calling Alpha/Disc 3, where we are subjected to monotonous steel drums for what would be 11 long tracks in a row, if it weren't for the fact that DJ LMNOP inexplicably tosses in a couple of songs from a childrens' reggae collection right smack in the middle. Not to worry, though, I'm sure the Raindrops are falling "right where they belong," alphabetically speaking.

a-b-c-d-e-f-g...

h-i-j-k-lmnop...

q-r-s, t-u-v...

w--x, y-and-z...

Now I know my ABCs...

Next time won't you sing with me?

You were right, the playlist looks rather boring (to me). Boardwalk, on the other hand, has some nice loops. I need to purchase the CDs from the older playlist and see if it still matches up. Plus, I got an iPhone today so hopefully SHAZAM will start doing its thing for me. I even found an online African radio station on the AOL channels. Maybe something good will pop up.

Thanks for putting the playlist together. There are too many CDs to purchase. I just dropped $150 for CDs based on some of your other lists and I'm still not done. There are a few that I can't find, or are fairly expensive for the one or two tracks I want. $35 for Latin Jazz Christmas? I don't think so.

Ok...I see where you were going with this...LOL

Can't say I would have wanted to spend so long in Margaritaville myself...I guess that's what Old Key West is supposed to sound like, right?? :p

There is some good stuff mixed in there. I have no interest in tracking down the steel drums, though.

You'll have to tell me which area(s) you're talking about. I know for a fact that they're not playing any of the retro swing CDs (Royal Crown Review, Katharine Whalen, etc.) out on the boardwalk.

Shazam is voodoo magic! 100% accurate on tracks already in its database.

Wait 'til you see what it costs for reggae versions of Police songs! :p

A while ago you were complaining about a sealed copy of Mega Africa listed for $150... that one is gone... and now someone is selling a used copy for $210!

Come on, you can't just do a half-a** job. Get to it!

The areas of interest are the lobby, the boardwalk, and the entrance to the boardwalk from the side of the Swan/Dolphin. For some unknown reason, there is a separate loop that plays in that area.

Ok, Shazam has to be the best invention ever! Of the 13 tracks that make up the Harambe loop in the Animal Kingdom, I had 11 of them identified in less than 10 minutes. This is crazy!

Yes, Mega Africa is still on my list of CDs to purchase, in addition to a few others. I think I need to have my wife start working again so I can afford my hobby. :D

Jay: Thanks for gathering the information and putting this loop together!

I do have a question: do you know if any of the tracks that have circulated as part of the Old Key West Area Music - i.e. the Trinidad Steel Drum Band (Yellow Bird), Trinidad and Tobago (Disney songs), and Caribbean Steel Drum Favorites (Matilda) - actually appear in the loop?

Thanks again for your work,

I would have to go back to Old Key West and listen to the steel drums again in order to say anything with more certainty. Frankly, mon, I'd rather spend an entire day at the dentist's office!

The selections all sounded as if they were performed by the same group.

There was no one there to buy me Boat Drinks - all my senses were still sensing - so you'd think I'd catch on to easy stuff like A Spoonful of Sugar and Someday My Prince Will Come from the Beauty and the Beat! album. Matilda and Yellow Bird should be a cakewalk for me, too, but this stuff was so mind-numbing - make that soul-destroying - that I was probably paying more attention to the group of cackling young women next to me than I was trying to discern anything resembling melody lines.

The only thing that I can say with certainty is that if they are playing A Spoonful of Sugar there, it's Track 51, unless DJ LMNOP found a way to spell 'A' wrong. Oh, and they can't be playing Yellow Bird, for that matter, because it would have to come after What the World Needs Now and there is no opening for it.

One of my favorites is Old Key west for the sound track. I spent a good portion of my first trips where I tried to ID music at OKW resort and did get quite a few tracks many of which are listed on the loops site. However, I have some listed that I know I either recorded over in the pool area or on a resort bus. Usually I hear the same music on the bus as on the resort, (Or the park we are heading to, depending) so I am wondering whether I have missed something or if the bus has separate loop with tracks that don't appear in the resort somewhere.

I know for a fact even without Shazam's help that on the bus I heard
  • "Tomorrow People" by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, from Conscious Party,
  • "Man with a Suitcase" from Regatta Mondata II Although the particular artist escapes me at the moment.
  • "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys from The Very Best Of The Beach Boys: Sounds Of Summer
Yet none of the available lists I have seen has these listed

So I am wondering
  • does the bus loop and the Resort loop contain different songs ?
  • is there a more current resort track listing available?
  • If there is nothing available, is anyone planning to work on it? (if not, I'd like to make that a project for me since I love that kind of music)
  • Are there any recordings already made?

Ah.
i tried searching first, but the search page complained that my search words were all four letters or shorter. (unless there is another way to spell them :))

Interesting, that yes times four.
  • So I don't technically need to hang out at OKW, I might need to ride the bus around next Feb, and try to capture that loop.
  • So there is a playlist but it isn't currently available due to RB. Curse you RB! Curse You!
  • Someone is planning to work it. so shall I just exercise patience?
  • Should I check usual suspects for loop to assist with the Steel Drum that no-one wanted to decipher?

Searches are quite the drain on system resources so you're limited to words that are four letters or more. Since "Old" and "Key" are only three letters they cannot be part of your search. "West" all by itself, though, does the trick.

Yes, I will have the list back up very soon.

I don't know that anyone has ever posted a recording of the Old Key West loop anywhere.

Ok, Last question on this. Is the bus loop being worked on?

Not that I know of.

Do you know whether the same couple/few songs play every time you pull within range of a resort? I can't say that riding around all day on Disney buses is at the top of my "To Do" list, so if multiple trips are required, you can probably count me out.
