[/floatright]Disneyland's new musical parade will feature floats and performers from films ranging from "Mary Poppins" to "Tangled" when it debuts next month.
Disney unveiled Friday details about the upcoming Mickey's Soundsational Parade during a State of the Resort presentation for about 400 invited guests. George Kalogridis, the Disneyland Resort spokesman, spoke at the event, as well as other Disney entertainment and creative directors.
The company announced the parade's creation in July, but it has released little information until now.
The parade officially premieres May 27.
Sayre Wiseman, director of show production of Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment, gave an overview of the parade during the presentation:
Mickey Mouse drum float: Mickey will be on a float, pounding on a drum. The float will be surrounded by drummers, including Goofy on the cymbals. The "Mickey Mouse Club Theme Song" will introduce the parade.
"The Little Mermaid" float: An octupus sits on top of the float and other elements, including a shrimp, move. Marimbas and steel drums will be part of the music.
Disney Heroine float: Princess characters, including Snow White and Rapunzel, will ride on their own float. Dancers in princess costumes will surround it.
"The Princess and the Frog" float: The bayou-themed float will carry Princess Tiana, Louis and Dr. Facilier. Elements, including flowers and a boat, move.
Other units: "Aladdin," "The Three Caballeros," "Peter Pan," "Mary Poppins" and a jungle-themed unit with "The Lion King" and "The Jungle Book" will be in between larger floats. Mary and Burt from "Mary Poppins" will bob up and down on carousel horses along the unit.
Rehearsals recently started for the parade, which includes a drumline and 90 performers. About 1,000 people, including 100 drummers, auditioned for roles.
At the presentation, dancers gave demonstrations, including updated versions of "Dig a Little Deeper" from "The Princess and the Frog" and "Circle of Life" from "The Lion King."
Mickey's Soundsational Parade is designed to replace a previous procession, Celebrate, which ended its run in November. Disneyland has been without a procession since A Christmas Fantasy parade concluded in January after the holiday season.
