So now that I have both the Adventureland Veranda area music in circulation online as well as the LP of George Bruns music, I can offer some commentary on the tracks. The Veranda loop which has been digitized and put online, apparently provided by Jack Wagner and dated mid-1973, is absolutely unrelated to the George Bruns music. The Bruns pieces did play in the Veranda from sometime in the mid or late 70's until 1993, and can be heard in part on this video Mike Lee took in 1992:
I have no doubt that the 1973 loop is authentic - it plays seamlessly - but the question then arises about the date printed on the reel to reel tape the loop was recorded from. Is it an installation date? A removal date? If it's the installation date, what played in the Veranda prior to the loop? Nothing? Or was it simply one of many recordings of the music to be switched in and out?
The Vault records release of "Moonlight Time in Old Hawaii" does clarify one point in this, which is in relation to the upcoming release of a track of this name by Randy in the World's Fair box set. The back of the LP sleeve clearly states that "Moonlight Time in Old Hawaii", "Ka Pua" and "Aloha Nui Hawaii" are original compositions by Bruns, meaning that the version used at the New York World's Fair was probably written by Bruns for the Fair or some time before, which also means that the version to be released on the NYWF CD set has, in all likelihood, never been released.
The Vault Record has no copyright date on it, and I'm not finding much better on my only other lead I have per the date, which is Vault Records' release immediately before the Bruns record, #126 'Waldo de los Rios and his Symphony-Pop Orchestra Play the International Hits". Rios died in 1977, so the Bruns record predates that, and Bruns recorded the record while in Disney's employ, as the sleeve clearly shows him standing next to the "Dopey Drive" sign.
According to Mike Lee at Widen Your World, both the Veranda version of the Bruns music and the LP version of the Bruns music have shared and exclusive tracks, so a comprehensive track listing of all the songs from the Veranda version of the music is not forthcoming. I, however, can enjoy listening to the record and thinking about eating a sweet and sour hot dog.
