I received an email from Disney.com about 2-weeks ago about the Lilo & Stitch CD, an advanced notice about it becoming availbable in stores, but here is the weird part, it had a link to purchase the cd at walmart.com, no mention of disneystore.com, or the Disney Stores, Wal-Mart for God sake.
You would think that a company, like Disney, who owns their own retail stores and retail website, would market the cd to an upcoming movie to their own under-performing stores. No wonder they are losing money. Maybe this is their attempt to curb the Dreamworks SPIRIT flow of customers, since Wal-Mart is advertising the heck out of their movie. Disney won't even toss their own stores a bone to play catch-up with Dreamworks.
For those of you who know anything about it, what makes this COLLECTOR'S EDITION of LILO & STITCH different than the regular release of the soundtrack? Is it numbered and with a Hologram, like Atlantis?
From the disneystore.com website regarding this cd-
"This exclusive limited-edition movie soundtrack features a lenticular cover and is only available in the Disney Store, Disney catalog, or at DisneyStore.com!" As I have not looked for the CD at Walmart, I have no idea if it is the same or not. Just thought collector's like myself might want a heads-up.
I get the point of the "limited edition" cd, I bought the FANTASIA 2000 LE from the Disney Store. It's numbered and has the most irritating package to get to the cd, but I have it.
My point is that I got an email from DISNEY regarding the cd, and it had a link to Wal-Mart, not the Disney Store.com or stating that I could buy it from the Disney Store (which if you haven't seen the news lately, are failing miserably, retail wise). I was annoyed that it had a link to another retailer. If you want to drive sales at your own store, give people an incentive to shop there. Offer both regular and limited editions exclusively at The Disney Store a week before the mass-merchandisers. Who is running their marketing department? Sponge Bob?
I've got a limited CD of Lilo & Stitch : Asian version, featuring a bonus track "Can't Help Falling in Love" (Chinese version) by a fenomenal boys-band at the moment F4.
I got it at Disney Store Hong Kong
