Innoventions [DL]

Hello:

I would like to try recording the Disneyland Innoventions exterior loop when I visit the park in April. Has anyone already scoped this out? Does the music come from the building itself or are there speakers surrounding the building? I guess I'm wondering if an induction recording is even possible.

I'm visiting from Missouri and will be with family, so I really only get one shot at this. Any information is tremendously appreciated.

Thanks,

wedroy1923,

I have indeed scoped this out on many occasions. I'm not sure exactly what type of recording you're hoping to make, but know that an induction recording is not possible.

The difficulty lies in that the music only plays from speakers on the ceiling of the first level of the carousel building. These speakers are high up out of reach, and the music does not play on the second floor, nor does it play from any ground-level speakers as far as I've been able to find (actually, I don't think there are any loops in TL that play from ground-level speakers, annoyingly enough). Even for a life recording it's going to be difficult to get something clean because of the distance from the speakers and the number of people. The best place would probably be the Autopia fastpass distribution area, as it's the only area on the first floor exterior you'll be able to stand in for long periods of time. I don't actually know how long the loop goes for however.

Another thing one could try us recording from the exit ramp, which would allow you to kind of stand in an area just below the ceiling (although still a decent distance from the speakers unfortunately). This is a bit more visible however.

Also of note, nothing in Innoventions plays over the ALD system, except supposedly the ASIMO show which I did not have time to check personally.

Club 33: Thanks for the information. That's disappointing news!

Jay: Don't know if I'm that daring my first time out of the chute.

I happen to have source recording of the exterior song that plays.
What you probably have is a track that was released on a special Tomorrowland Disneyland Forever album. It's called "There's a Bright New World of Innoventions (Home version)" and runs 3:39. I have yet to compare it to what plays in the park- I know the beginning is the music that plays as the Tom Morrow film starts, and then there might be some area music in there. I do believe however that the exterior loop is longer and also loops of course, which the track doesn't.

I'm sure this has all been said somewhere on this board in the distant past, but here's what I know about the DL Innoventions music. The outside loop differs from the inside loop, though both play Buddy Baker arrangements of the Sherman's "Great Big World of Innoventions". The interior loop heard mainly just on the lower level in the outer ring (the areas where the various presentations are, not the central non moving hub) is composed of 5 versions of the Innoventions music, one for each section of Innoventions: Home, Entertainment, Sports, Transportation, and Information. So depending on which presentation you are being led to, the doors would open at a different point, Tom Morrow gives a different welcome speech inside, and the music would be arranged to the theme of the presentation. For example in the Sports zone, there's are hints of a college March (someone mentined that it was the Medfield College theme) in the Sports loop, a piece of "We're the Mouseketeers" in the Entertainment zone, etc.... I believe I was also told that the loop on the outside cycles through each zone, but in a less pronounced fashion- if you listened to the exterior loop you might not notice 5 distinct sections, it's only on the interior that they are really pronounced.

And for the record, the interior Innoventions loop, as well as Tom Morrow's dialogue inside, have all been on the ALD system at some point. As for whether they still are or not, or how good the reception was, I can't say, but I know they were being broadcast at least for a while.

Thanks for the information, X-S Tech! Add all the Buzz Lightyear and Star Wars to Tomorrowland as you want, but that tune still brings to mind an exciting world on the move and the Tomorrowland of Walt Disney. I think Baker did a beautiful job arranging the music for the attraction. On most of my recent visits, I've just sat outside Innoventions listening to the music play.

As of about 2006 Tom Morrow was no longer on the ALD system unfortunately- I tried to record it but at that point only ASIMO was using it.

As of this summer they've been having people enter through the old exit ramp onto the second level, and exit out the rotating ring on the first level. While the exterior music still plays, no GBBT plays on the inside any longer. In fact nothing of any sort is really going on in the rotating section of the building. Tom Morrow may still be there but his section is covered up with black tarps.

I think that was temporary and that the main entrance to Innoventions should be reopened by now.
