My birthday was Thursday (happy BD to me...I got demoted at work that day) and I told my husband that as a belated BD gift I wanted HBOND. Beautiful story, beautiful songs...GREAT show at Disney-MGM .
Would take too long to have to wait to get it for NEXT Christmas .

Happy belated birthday Sharon. Sorry about the demotion though. I for one would like to find a new job but that's another story...

Thanks Tommy for the update on the HoND DVD. I was wondering if it would be worth buying. I'll have to try & pick it up this week. I've heard that the sequel isn't very good though. Let us know what you think.

I'm watching my brand new copy right now. The DTS 5.1 track sounds awesome! I've read some complaints in other forums about grain, but to this eye the transfer looks pretty darn good.

What a great soundtrack! Menken & Schwartz! Lets get these guys back and bring the musical back to new Disney releases. I have been extremely disappointed in Dinosaur, Groove and Atlantis. ::)

[Geez Sharon, its weird, but I actually expect to hear the voices from the Disney-MGM Hunchback show when I hear these songs now. It has been awhile since I had my CD or VHS copy of the movie out, I guess! ;)]

Is the Making of program the same that was released earlier - the one hosted by Jason Alexander - or something new? It was missing from the Euro release of the DVD. BUT it has Someday sung by Heidi Mollenhauer, and I am so happy to have it! :D

Haven't watched it yet, but read reviews that the "Making of..." program is, indeed, the one hosted by Jason Alexander. The R-1 DVD, as I'm sure you know Sami did NOT get the version of the deleted "Someday". :'(

That's too bad. I suspect Disney might be re-issuing this title in a few years with a better treatment (more features). Maybe not though. I have NO inside information on this.

I haven't watched all of the movie yet so far, but it looks fantastic.

I was a little dissapointed with the menu, lately the menus on Disney DVDs have been fun but this onewasn't so great. The extras on it were not to disney caliber either I thought. It needed just alittle bit more.
The game was fun but only for little while. I haven't watched the making of yet or used the commentary but its
something to look forward to.

I also wish there was a Lilo and Stitch Trailer on it though. :-

Mike--your point is exactly why I posted my topic, "Should the characters sing again?"! After I watched "The Hunchback" on DVD this week, I was reminded of how great those songs were--and performed by the characters! And yes--I'd love to have the Schwartz/ Menken team back! Michael Zielski.

Yep, I've seen the MGM version of HBOND more times than I can count. Have also seen some of the HBOND performers in other venues (you know you've seen a show a lot when the performers look familiar enough where you recognize them elsewhere), as well as "other venue" performers working at HBOND.

A current Frollo used to work at the Adventurers Club and Jungle Book.

The original Laverne currently works at the Adventurers Club.

A former Victor (or is it Hugo? The shorter one) currently works at Comedy Warehouse. Before he was Victor/Hugo, he worked at the Adventurers Club (yes, there is definitely a trend here ). He still performs for Orlando Theater Project and Orlando Shakespeare Festival.

The original Phoebus was the boyfriend of an old acquaintance of mine .

Sharon, after referring to amazon.com, I don't see any reference to a "Hunchback" collector's edition DVD set, so apparently for some reason, "Hunchback" was not given this treatment! Thanks for the interesting "inside scoop" on "The Hunchback" MGM show--we unfortunately couldn't squeeze it in during our latest WDW "adventure" earlier this month--we've seen it a few times, and I've always loved it--very colorful, and of course, the songs! I'd love to have Schwartz and Menken back, if that's a possibility, as Ashman and Menken are now only a member of our fondest memories. Michael.

I read today in the ToonTalk column on LaughingPlace.com the review of the Hunchback DVD. According to that, this DVD was thought to originally be a collector's version (i.e. 2-disc extras loaded set) but then for some reason only came out as a single disc release. The reviewer felt it may have something to do with rushing it to release it at the same time as the sequel. Despite the change frome 2 discs to 1, he gave the DVD an A+ and felt the extras were pretty good except for the Jason Alexander "making of" piece. I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and get it or wait hoping that the 2-disc version appears someday.

Pity they didn't make a Deluxe Edition of it...HBOND is my 2nd favorite movie and I would have LOVED that.

Ah yes....Menken and Schwartz...one of the best combinations ever!

If HBOND is like any of Disney's past releases that have been pretty much "bare-bone" releases, we'll see it re-issued in a new edition in a little bit. ;)

If there was plans to release it as a 2 disc and it was rushed to get it out in time for the sequel, they probably already had to have put all that material together for the 2 disc version and cut it out when they changed their mind. So it will just be a matter of re-pressing the discs and re-doing the packaging.

Of course I won't even mention my thoughts about Disney releasing all these sequels to many of the classic films. :-X ::)
