Haunted Mansion Holiday CD-A Preemptive Plea

The stuff that isnt on the CD is The Phantom Manor Music box, all 3 Oogie Boogie queue announcements, Oogies announcement at the end of the Stretching room (Very cool, he gets really creepy here and we can see him in his fully glorious "Boogie Man" mode for once....the closest we've seen of this is in the This is Halloween song when he sings his part, but hes even creepier here) and then We Three Dracs and He Came Upon a Midnight Drear which arent part of the ride at all this year.

Thanks again, Mark! Actually seeing HMH is still just a dream-- throwing more wood on the fire in Maine in December is the unfortunate chilling reality! Our son has grown up with the Nightmare Before Christmas, and combining it with the Haunted Mansion, which I first saw in 1976, is just amazing--we'd love to see it--so envious of those of you who can, which is why it's been so great to finally at least have the score officially available!

Re:Haunted Mansion Holiday CD-Some people are never happy.

I guess you can file this in the some people are never happy department?..I finally received my copy of the ?Haunted Mansion Holiday? CD and although I?m really happy Disney decided to release this disc I have to admit I?m a little disappointed in the contents. I guess it?s because I really like the background score that I would have really preferred if they would have included more pure ride ?soundtrack? music. It would have been great if they would have done the ride-thru with and without the narration, like they did on the WDW ?Fantasmic? CD. There is cetainly more than enough room left on the disc for this. It?s just more fun for me to hear the score alone. I guess I?m disappointed because after spending a premium price on the ?official? CD I still enjoy the unofficial cuts that appeared for awhile on the internet a lot more. But I?m sure glad they did a professional release!

I have to agree. Too bad they loaded up the CD with the mood ruining Scarols instead of some isolated score or vocals. Not to mention all the Oogie stuff that was left out. Oh well. Perhaps they'll try to top themselves next year.

I know, you hate to complain about something you've been clamoring for for a while--but why leave out Oogie Boogie, such an important character in the whole scenario?!? We can only hope that if the CD sells well(I actually ordered 3 copies), then maybe next year some omissions will be included; a pure musical score track, like on the Fantasmic CD, is a great idea.

time for a question......

Finally listened to the CD......quite different, musically, from the 2001 show(my listening, courtesy of a CD "boot"); is most of this year's score, then, the 2002 score? Very happy to hear Ken Page's Oogie Boogie at the end, as I wasn't clear from the posts if he was on the CD at all!

My main question--with all the discussion on the you-know-what threads concerning audio remixing, with questions as to what constitutes a true, accurate recording of an attraction, as opposed to a remixed compilation from varying sources, I just wanted to ask this question to those of you who have been lucky enough to see HMH this year, and have listened to the CD--for the record:

Is what is on the CD(the ride-through, particularly) a fairly accurate reflection of THIS year's actual HMH, aside from some Oogie material unfortunately being left off?

Thanks,
Mike

Personally, I can say that the CD is a completely accurate reflection of the attraction in everyway.

The only think missing are the random oogie statements in the stretching room, and the queue. And the placingment of the Scarols is slightly out of order (see the track order of THAT further up this topic)

Otherwise the music is exactly as it is in the attration...you practically have the ride in your hands ;)

Also...Those voices we all thought were the King and The Queen...arent :/ Actually they are in the tea party scene in the ride which confuses me, but oh well :)

It's actually the 2002 mix, but with the ending replaced to reflect this year's version. They should have included Oogie Boogie's comments to make it absolutely accurate to this year's version. I still can't stand the music, the 2001 original was the best.

One thing that still puzzles me is why the Bride's heartbeat is heard during the transition from the Ballroom to the Attic. It's in both audio ride-throughs, but not in the HMH itself that I can hear, and the Bride isn't in HMH at all that I know of. So why is the heartbeat there?

You know, you're right. I hadn't noticed before. The bride is indeed not in the attic, nor do I recall any heartbeat.

Thanks, all, for the responses; if I keep on reviewing all of the recent discussions about audio mixing, as I've been doing, I may one day yet achieve the status of a lower-ranking audiophile(......actually, even that's hoping for too much--the ear for detail some of you guys have seems phenomenal to me!).

So far, after several listenings, I have to agree with GG about the HMH score--I like the flowing, choral arrangements of the 2001 version; my son, who has an incredible ear for music, was waiting to hear some of those same portions of the 2001 score, and was disappointed when they never materialized(happily, at least some of Oogie did).
