Hey everyone,

I am re-constructing the exterior music loop used at the Grand Californian. I am using the playlist posted on this site as a guide. Track #2 is "Hotel California". While this recording is around 6 minutes in length, apparently only :48 seconds are used. Does anyone have any idea which section of the track is used?

Also, as a "newbie" at this kind of thing, I am wondering if the loop should contain gaps between the songs? Would Disney typically use gaps or no gaps between the different songs?

Thank you for all you help!

The first 48 seconds of the song, from the first note to the coda right before Don Henley starts singing, is used. However, the last seconds of the song fade out, so unless you have a recording of the loop, it'll be very difficult to reconstruct it. I found it very appropriate that they use the intro of that song. Hearing it brought a smile to my face.

It is basically a waste of time to reconstruct a loop from a tracklist -- you need the tracklist and a decent-quality reference recording to work out the edits and transitions. Many Disney loops involve some degree of editing of the various individual tracks. It is rare for a loop to consist of a series of straight needle-drop cues. Good luck!

Thanks for the information about the "Hotel California" track. Thanks also for the tips about using reference recordings to get the fades, transitions, etc. Does anybody have any pointers on good sources for reference recordings, particularly this BGM loop? Thanks!

Unfortunately, most reference recordings need to be made by visiting the park concerned with a recorder and sitting down and recording it yourself or getting someone else to do it for you (either live or induction).
You would need to find someone who has done this and would be willing to let you hear their recording.
Others more familiar with the loop concerned may be able to offer more specific advice.
Often, when someone has completed a playlist, the edits etc plus the sources will be included in the listing so it's possible to use that information to make the reconstruction although it can get expensive buying all the CDs required.
It may be you will have to wait for someone to work on this loop if you can't get the recording yourself.
