I asked awhile back about the Fantasmic pre-show loop, and no one had an answer, so I went and figured it out for myself. :) Go me! :D Anyways, I thought I'd post what I found here for anyone who's interested. There's still a few holes, so if anyone knows how to fill them in, it would be much appreciated! The parenthesees behind the title is what CD it is from)

Hey, Kirsten --

Great work -- I'm trying to reconstruct this one.

Questions: is it possible that track 21 is Eartha Kitt's performance of Snuff Out The Light (Yzma's Song) from The Emperor's New Groove soundtrack and that track 24 might be "Jungle Book Groove" from the live-action film's soundtrack?

Oh, and other possibilities: Pink Elephants on Parade & Wanna Be Like You could both be from the "Stay Awake" CD... in fact, I kinda sorta recall that disc being used there, so that *might* be a direct hit...

Awesome info there, Kirsten!

Just curious--do you (or anyone else, for that matter) have even a live recording of the un-identified songs? That might help people place the particular versions of the ones that are missing.

Steve - I'll have to go looking for those online and see if they sound familiar! Thanks for the ideas!

Scott - I don't yet, but I was thinking of going back and trying something like that, cause I'm not sure how well I could recognize them (I was trying to memorize versions of 27 songs, after all! :) ) My only problem would really be crowd noise, which is why I had so much trouble with track 21 (that was where the stadium really started filling up).

(who's off to download some stuff and see!)

Good luck, Kirsten - if you need any help finding any of my "suggestions" let me know and something can be arranged.

Also, if you could try and offer up any further description on tracks 5 & 27 - any kind of detail or memory that would help us ID them, that would be great. My only thought on track 5 at the moment is "Disco Mickey Mouse" from the (duh!) Mickey Mouse Disco CD -- but I have a sneaking suspicion that's not it... 27, I'll admit has me utterly snowed at the moment.

On track 5, I can remember some of the lyrics. It's the one that goes "Uh-huh, oh yeah, now you're dancin' with the mouse... oh yeah, now you're dancin' with Mickey Mouse"... it also opens with the Mickey Mouse Club theme.

As for track 27, it's basically the Beach Boys' "Surfin Safari" with Disney characters talking.

OK, Kirsten. Track 27 is definitely from the "Mickey's Sports Songs" CD (1996). You can hear a sample on Amazon.com.

Heh. Got it. Track 5 is *definitely* "Mickey Mouse Club Mix" from the CD "Mickey Unrapped".

I think that's a lock on the whole thing :)

I believe Track 21 is a mamba-ish version of "Castle in Spain" from "Babes in Toyland".

I don't know which album it's from, though.

Steve - Thanks!! I wondered about those, but I hadn't been able to find a copy online to check it out.

Philip - I'll try looking for that one! I don't remember much of the Babes in Toyland music. Good call!

Philip:

I can't locate any recordings of that tune other than the original soundtrack version... I'm still leaning towards the Eartha Kitt number from the TENG soundtrack based on the description Kirsten gave...

Both track 21 & 27 are from the STAY AWAKE album. Track 21 is the first song ("Castle in Spain" from Babes in toyland) on the MEDLEY THREE track and is by Buster Pointdexter

I'll have to keep looking for that song... it hasn't come up on any programs I've tried. :( But thans! Is it just a cut from that track?

Kirsten:

The tracks on the Stay Awake CD are a little flaky as the disc is laid out in long, extended "medleys" comprising several songs by multiple performers each.

Just to wrap this up, I think that the list is now 100% accounted for: here's the final tracklist:

WDW - Fantasmic! Pre-Show BGM:

01. You've Got a Friend In Me - Robert Goulet
from Toy Story 2
02. Iko Iko - Samuel E. Wright (as Sebastian)
from The Little Mermaid II
03. I've Got No Strings - Gipsy Kings
from Simply Mad About the Mouse
04. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah - Ric Ocasek
from Simply Mad About the Mouse
05. Mickey Mouse Club Mix
from Mickey Unrapped
06. Under The Sea - Mark Lennon & Andrea Martin
from Mouse House
07. So This Is Love - Tonya Kelly
from Mouse House
08. I Just Can't Wait To Be King - Denny Leroux
from Mouse House
09. Beauty And The Beast - Carmen Carter & Valerie Davis
from Mouse House
10. Perfect World - Tom Jones
from The Emperor's New Groove
11. The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room (Macarena Dance Version) - Mary Hylan & Marco Marinangeli
from Mouse House
12. Disney Mambo #5 - Lou Bega
from La Vida Mickey
13. Digga-Digga Dog - Oren Waters
from 102 Dalmatians
14. Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf? - LL Cool J
from Simply Mad About The Mouse
15. Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me) - The Pointer Sisters
from Music From The Park
16. Topsy-Turvy - Randy Crenshaw
from Mouse House
17. Hot Hot Hot - Samuel E. Wright (as Sebastian)
from The Little Mermaid II
18. Living La Vida Mickey
from La Vida Mickey
19. Hakuna Matata - Lebo M
from Rhythm Of The Pride Lands

Somewhere in this loop used to play Billy Joel's When You Wish Upon a Star from Simply Mad About the Mouse? Did they drop that song?

As far as I know, "When you Wish Upon a Star" is no longer played. I got there as soon as the stadium opened, and heard the whole loop through about 1.5 times... never heard that one. I think it must've been removed.
