EVEN DISNEY STOOPS TO EBAY!

Talk about hilarious. Selling it on one site, then selling it on another. Hopefully they'll know what they're doing unlike a good portion of the DisneyDirect workers.

Here is a interesting auction
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...605327&rd=1
In honor of Disneyland's 50th anniversary, Disney Auctions is pleased to present this unique pair of items developed exclusively to accompany the limited-edition box-set release 50th Anniversary: A Musical History of Disneyland.

Written by Disney artist Stacia Martin with art direction by Imagineer Bruce Gordon, the coffee table book 50th Anniversary: The Sounds of Disneyland provides an in-depth look at the musical and audio history of Disneyland? park with rare photos and early working drawings.

This lot also features a rare test pressing of the bonus limited-edition album Walt Disney Takes You To Disneyland: A Musical Tour of the Magic Kingdom, a gold-vinyl reproduction of Walt Disney Records' first-ever album release (1956). Preceding a limited edition of 5,000 gold-vinyl pressings, the album is presented in a full-color booklet-style jacket that re-creates the original album artwork, complete with vintage photos of Disneyland.

Lets piss off the publc even when we are close to making them happy. Disney never ceases to amaze me how clueless they can be sometimes. Is the extra $100 or so they will make on the auction worth the negative press for the company in the public eye?

So let me get this straight, they're selling the limited edition on an ebay site minus the 6 CD set and for 25 bucks more? Sounds like one heck of a deal to me! :-

Well, I'm going to have to say I'm disgusted with whoever at the company thought this was a good idea. To start out with, deciding to auction this item that has just gone on sale seems like they recognized the feeding frenzy they had for the set at DisneyDirect and then figured out a way to capitalize on it. Basically, the sets with those numbers should have gone out randomly. I think it kind of bastardizes what will make those particular sets more valuable by doing this. Setting the price higher for these particular sets is out of line when it's the secondary market dictates collectables and their value. I can see someone paying more for those numbers...but not directly from Disney, through ebay or not. Not when they were taken out of the purchase pool in the first place. I think Mr. Thornton should have one or the other to begin with.

I can't believe people are bidding so high on this. Set # 50 will not be worth any more that any other set. If Disney were including something else with the set to make it worth more then I could someone possibly bidding on it, but I am getting the same set in the mail and paid a lot less for it.

Hi.

They said that the vinyl is a "test pressing." The book is probably left over from a LE set that perhaps had defective discs, or a leftover, what have you.

They are taking advantage of folks who are excited about the anniversary, but may not be in the know, like us. Could you imagine bidding on and winning the record and the book, then finding out that they were only the extras to a six disc whatever-it-is?

I'm sorry, but I think this lifelong "Disney thing" has run its course with me, and this Boxed Set did it. I think I'm going to bow out for a while. Go back to being a civilian. Referring to the Magic Kingdom as Disneyworld. Telling people that DL and WDW are the same, only WDW is bigger. Calling it the Electrical Light Parade.

I think the thing that gets me the most about this whole ebay bit with Disney is that they couldn't even get their stories straight at their parks and online store and thus deprived many folks who knew about it from getting their copy. So now, to add on to the confusion, they're throwing copies on ebay for which they can charge even more. I guess it'll be straight forward at least as far as when you can do what there. I'm just glad I was able to convince the lady on the phone the night of April 25 to sell me a copy.

Re:THE EBAY AUCTION

First, I should let you know that the 2 copies of ?A Musical History of Disneyland? (#1 and #50) that are up for auction in Ebay are for CHARITY!!! One?s profits, I know for a fact, are going to a local Pre-School, while the other is going for a special program at a hospital.

Yes, I know it?s not posted on the site as such, but it doesn?t need to be. Why is it OK for others to place BOOTLEG C**p on Ebay who?s proceeds benefit no one (including the artist who created it) but the CRIMINAL who?s auction it is? But when Disney tries to do something that will truly benefit someone, we?re no better than ax murderers. I know you didn?t know it was for charity, but one should get their FACTS straight before assuming that we have a group of evil geniuses sitting a big room who?s sole job it is to figure out how to cheat and deceive as many people as possible.

These sets that are being auctioned are COMPLETE and QUALITY sets!!!

Now that you know the FACTS, may be we all can get off our little soap boxes.

Randy I appreciate all the work you do but how would we get the FACTS straight when the facts were NOT available to us?

And why COULDN'T Disney simply put "proceeds donated to charity" in the description? OK, we aren't entitled to know that, but it sure would set better with everyone if they did that. I personally had no idea they donated proceeds from auctions to charities, so it's news to me.

So, does that mean the auction for just the book and LP is also for charity?

We're (or at least I'm) only so critical of the Disney Company because we think very highly of it.
I know I wouldn't give a you-know-what if six flags put out some collector's item for their who-knows-how-many years of unexplainable existence.

I think most people here agree that selling bootleg CDs on ebay is stupid and the seller should be banned or fined.
