Hey, ?yall!

Does anyone know anything about a show at TDL called, ?Encore!?? Apparently it?s some sort of a Broadway review. Is there a video floating around somewhere? Two of my good friends are going to perform in it from January through August next year!

Any info on the show would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

Have a great day,

"Encore!" is staged in the Broadway style theater in the American Waterfront area of Tokyo DisneySea. It features a huge cast of live singers and dancers performing selected non-Disney songs from the golden musicals of Broadway of bygone times (so no new material).

The show is revue style, without story line but has some great staging.

To my knowledge it is the only major show in Tokyo DisneySea for which no soundtrack is available.

*sigh*

Encore! was by far my favorite show at TDR. Unfortunately, they don't allow videotaping, so I was not able to video that show while I was there. Evidently, they allowed video recording for a very brief period during park previews, so there are probably some out there, but I haven't been able to find one.

I think they also allow videotaping of the modified version they have during the Christmas season...one of our Tokyo regulars can probably comment more authoritatively on that.

Unfortunately, I can't give you any more information than anyone else has. We weren't allowed to videotape the show when we went on April, so...shrug.

What a coincidence though...I know someone who was in Encore until this past Spring. I think it was her THIRD 8-month haul over there.

About the videotaping: yep, they even prohibit any photography (not just flash photography), which really surprised me.

There were only two shows you were not allowed to take photos in: Encore! and Under the Sea.

Strange... I had a chat with a cast member in the Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Resort Paris recently about this topic, as they are not allowing videotaping or photography in their Animagique show either. The explanation: not legal problems, but the fact that flash lights are dangerous for the actors and would reveal too much as it is a dark light show. About the videotaping and the photography without flash: the small screens on the back of the cameras usually turned on is just too much of a bright light / too obvious and therefore considered distracting as the theater is kept as dark as possible.

Neither of these explanation really fits Encore! or Under the Sea though.

To start, "Encore!" is a show at TDS, not TDL. ;)

They had that same rule for "Mystic Rhythms" at TDS for the first three years, but videotaping is allowed now. I have video and pics, albeit not good ones, taken for "Encore" and "Under the Sea". Both were legal since I took them during previews. I also have the Christmas version for the show in 2003, when taping was allowed, unlike last year.

Apparently, there is an over-copied bootlegged videotape available amongst Encore cast members floating around somewhere, as well as a bootleg soundtrack recording.

Also....rumor is "Encore" may come to a close next year and a new show will premiere in time for TDS' 5th anniversary.

Personally... I used to love "Encore" in it's original form, but after they deleted some numbers and cut back the show, the pacing suffered a bit. Also, for some reason, this show appears to be a snoozer for a lot of people. Lots of japanese guests appear to fall asleep during the whole show.
