Hi everyone.

Just got back from WDW and I had a blast! I saw the Spectromagic Parade for my first time, and liked it a lot, but when I went to watch the electrical water pageant, due to the raining every night, I only saw a brief part of it. It also seemed like a few barges were missing too, (I watched at the Grand Floridian) can anyone tell me what music they are using now, last time I saw it was in 1975. ( I been to WDW 75, 83, 86, 88, 2000 and 2004)

Thank you all

Hi Greydot-

The last I saw, they were using all the barges. The music is synthesized Little Mermaid...not nearly as good as what they were using a decade ago, IMHO.

In 1975 they were using a little ditty known as Baroque Hoedown for the soundtrack to the Electrical Water Pageant. It later became the soundtrack for the Main Street Electrical Parade, and the Water Pageant has gone through a few soundtracks since.

Ok here we go (yes Zarpman this masterpiece is also one I am imformitive on)

1971- 1979??? same soundtrack as DL's MSEP from '72-'74
1979-1990???? first update by Don Dorsey
Oct 81-Oct 82 Temporary finale music added for the Tencennial Celebration
1990-??????? Little Mermaid soundtrack (I agree Sharon,BOOOOOOORING) If I ever become WDW President I'll re-instate Version #2 just for you)

Howdy.

That 80's version was really the best. It is, for me, the first elusive piece of Disney music. I searched for the ELP picture disc for over 15 years, thinking that it was the 80's Don Dorsey version. I searched every new and used record store on three continents looking for that one, and along the way amassed quite a collection. This was all before the internet, and on top of that I was a "closet" Dis-noid, so I never told anyone what I was looking for. (Like Waylon Smithers and Malibu Stacy.) When I finally got it, and played it , and discovered it was really the Baroque Hoedown, I felt like Burgess Meredith after he sat down on his glasses.

I missed that Tencennial version, and I'd really like to hear it now.

I always felt that the Electrical Water Pageant deserved it's own $9.99 (I guess now that would be $12.98) CD, with all the versions represented.

Greetings! You are correct.....many barges are missing from the Electrical Water Pageant. The three hurricanes we received in the late summer took a toll on the Electrical Water Pageant. The pageant was down for about two weeks, they worked feverishly just to get one set of barges out for a modified show. There are 2 sets of power units with 6 trailing barges, a total of 14 sets. They were only able to get the first barge string in working order and it is still missing the Octapus, leaveing just 6 scenes working. The second string of barges is being repaired and should be back in the show by the Spring. The audio you heard when you were here was about 75%, they currently do not play the entire track since it is missing quite a bit. At least they are working on getting Walt Disney World's longest runing show back in order. I hope this helps.

Waking up from a long winter's nap.....

Oh good...they ARE going to fix the EWP in its entirely. I've had the opportunity to see it twice this past month it's just plain ol' SAD to see only half a show. The EWP has been a favorite of mine sine my first trip in '79. I asked a "manager who might know about stuff like that because he knows everything else" and he didn't know if the whole show was ever going to be back or not. I hope what you say is true! Thanks!

THANK YOU WALT DISNEY WORLD! SHARON KURLAND AND I BOTH LOVE YOU!

now just send Spectro to Hong Kong & fly the MSEP back from Paris & the two of us will really love you, right Sharon?

Actually, I haven't loved WDW in several years now. It's partially because it's my next-door neighbor now but moreso because I've seen too much taken away, especially in the past 5 to 7 years. I've been disappointed way too many times and if they could just MEET my expectations, I'd be a much more satisfied guest than what I am now.

I've only seen the parade when leaving MK, and even then only short glimpses. Where are good places to watch? Can you watch it (and hear it) from the entrance of MK? Where are the speakers that actually play the music? How many versions of the soundtrack have there been? Has any version been released on CD?

I do have one mp3 that is a vinyl rip, its 11mb, 8:15, and its labeled 1973. In the tag it says "Sides A & B mixed together by DJ Technoid".

I don't know if they've changed the schedule and locations with passing years, but my favorite place to watch it was always from the beach at the Poly, where you could see MK in the background. I don't like it from the GF beach because the Contemp is in the background and it's too bring. Contemp. beach was a good place too, beause the background (Ft. Wilderness) was very dark and non-distracting. I don't know if they play it for the benefit of the departing MK guests. I'd hope NOT, because I fear it would make a bottleneck situation.

I believe the music is pumped directly from the barges.

I think there have been 3 versions...the original (I have no idea of the music), the Don Dorsey version and the Little Mermaid Version (all the same visuals...just different accompanying music). Right now they are doing "half" of the Don Dorsey version, due to hurricane damage (WTG for Disney doing something else half-assed. If the show isn't right, 101 it until it IS, for crying out loud!).

Hiya-
Does anyone know specificly what parts of the EWP floats are being used, and what Songs from Don Dorsey's original soundtrack?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

7 of the 14 barges sustaind damage from the hurricanes. Following the hurricanes, when it was safe to do so, WDW resumed the EWP using the first 7 barges up to the Octopus wich @ the time was still not lighting up. They have since finished repairing/rehabbing the other 7 barges. I am guessing that Don's full soundtrack is being used (although around '89 or so, the "King Neptune" music that was heard just prior to the main theme reprise was ommited. Thanks to SharonKurland for informing me of the music change & SpectroMagic91 for the rehab status of the show.
