WOW! What an AWESOME resource!

Thanks for posting it.

I think I'll have to make some sort of "resources" board that doesn't allow posting but only contains informational resources such as that.

Hi Bill,

The story of how that web site came to be is a little involved. I believe it was back in late 1997 that the Main Street music was being discussed on the alt.disney.disneyland newsgroup. There was a pretty good unofficial list going on, but nobody had been able to identify everything. I had some friends in Disneyland Guest Relations, and discovered that the music loop listing was available on their computers. So I hand-copied that list and sent it to Al Lutz, who put it on the Disneyland Information Guide. Later, Kevin Livingston started the Main Street Music Loop site and I helped him with some information and pictures.

Sometime while making the site, we discovered that the loop was inaccurate (for Disneyland, anyway). I later heard the WDW Main St loop and it adheres to that original list I copied from City Hall, which is still available somewhere on the DIG. There are only two differences: at Disneyland, instead of "Before the Parade Passes By," the "Aviation Rag" plays, and "Gary, Indiana" was cut entirely from the Disneyland loop. (Why? Who knows?!?)

There is definitely two "Sidewalks of New York" tracks. As you said, it is in the "'Old Timers' Waltz Medley" and has its own track.

Jason,

Thanks for posting those music loops! My interests in theme park music shift from time to time, and right now I am on a music loop kick. The folks who compile these loops (I think they are people at WDI?) do a fantastic job and help to build an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement -- my hats off to them!

I do have a quick question -- have you heard the Zorro and Elephant's March (I assume from the Jungle Book)songs in the Disneyland Main Entrance Loop circa 1992? Are they specially orchestrated versions or commercially available versions? Thanks again for your post!

I think it's funny that for Disneyland's Main Entrance loop prior to 1992 they used songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I know they certainly fit in with the theme, but I'm surprised Disney still had the rights to use those songs. I know Disney released an LP of Chitty songs back in the late 60's early 70's, but I was unaware that Disney used any of the songs elsewhere.

Yep, the Park music loops are usually done by WDI. The late Jack Wagner did do a lot of the Disneyland music loops in the 1970s, though, including the Matterhorn Queue, the Main Street Christmas loop (and non-Christmas), and the Village Haus loop. Most of those tracks were just taken from vinyl records he owned.

I have heard the Zorro theme and Elephant March, and I don't know of them being commercially available. You should still be able to hear the Elephant March at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris. It seems that in 1992 WDI put together new Main Street and Main Entrance music loops for DLP, WDW's MK, and DL, but they were all just slightly different. Below is a partial listing of the Disneyland Paris Main Entrance BGM:

01. Be Our Guest
02. Mickey Mouse Club March
03. The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room
04. Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee
05. Under the Sea
06. Come Again (Come on In)
07. Dig-a-Dig-Dig / Heigh-Ho
08. Beautiful Beulah
09. Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)
10. "Old Timers" Waltz Medley
11. Whale of a Tale
12. Swisskapolka
13. Merrily on Our Way to Nowhere
14. Bang! Goes Old Betsy
15. Elephant March
16. When You Wish Upon a Star
17. Zorro Theme
18. March of the Cards
19. Timekeeper
20. Davy Crockett
21. Star Tours: The Droid Room
22. Phantom Manor
23. We are Here to Change the World

Tokyo Disneyland uses Disneyland's pre-1992 BGM as their Main Gate music, and I think also use some of the pre-1992 Main Street music loop songs in their World Bazaar loop.

See, this is the kind of stuff us Disneyphiles need to know! Thanks, Jason!

Now, on to business - how do we get our hands on some of this stuff? I mean, besides the commercially available soundtrack stuff and the DL Forever stuff, where can we find some of these things? Let me list some examples of what I'm looking for:

The Broadway stuff from Main Street
The SM Concourse stuff that was never on DL Forever
Fantasyland Organ stuff, besides the Mickey and Friends

I'm trying to put together CDs of all this stuff, and that's what is giving me the most trouble, along with the COP Kaleidophonic Opening, which I also can't track down.

Suggestions?

Jason,
That list is a definite keeper!
Thanks for bringing it here..
I too, like Ryan, am finding it hard to put a complete Main Street loop Cd[s} together. Any legitimate sources would be appreciated.
(The current version of Wells Fargo Wagon is avoiding discovery!)

Unfortunately, many of the Main Street music loop songs have never been released, and are probably just needledrop tracks that could be found if one knew the right company to go to. (That's purely a guess on my part, though.) Following is a listing of the Main Street loop and where/if the tracks have been released (to the best of my knowledge):

01. Goodbye, My Coney Island Baby
-- Disneyland Forever
02. Smiles
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "The Whistler and His Dog" Track 2
03. Old Timers' Waltz Medley
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "On the Boardwalk" Track 19
04. Dearie
-- Unreleased
05. In My Merry Oldsmobile
-- Disneyland Forever
06. Triplets
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "The Whistler and His Dog" Track 6
07. Elegance
-- Unreleased
08. Aviation Rag
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "The Whistler and His Dog" Track 3
09. Put On Your Sunday Clothes
-- Unreleased
10. Desecration Rag No. 1: A Symphonic Nightmare
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "The Whistler and His Dog" Track 11
11. Fortuosity
-- Disneyland Forever
12. Let's Have a Drink On It
-- Disneyland Forever
13. Surrey with the Fringe on Top
-- Unreleased
14. Many a New Day
-- Unreleased
15. Kansas City
-- Unreleased
16. Sidewalks of New York
-- Unreleased
17. Mary's a Grand Ol' Name
-- Disneyland Forever
18. Flitterin'
-- Disneyland Forever
19. Summer Magic
-- Disneyland Forever
20. Beautiful Beulah
-- Disneyland Forever
22. I Could Love a Million Girls
-- Disneyland Forever
23. Yankee Doodle
-- Disneyland Forever
24. Winter Garden Rag
-- Unreleased
25. Wells Fargo Wagon
-- Unreleased
26. Lida Rose
-- Unreleased
27. Iowa Stubborn
-- Unreleased
28. Oh You Drummer!
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "The Whistler and His Dog" Track 14
29. Junk Man Rag
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "The Whistler and His Dog" Track 17
30. In the Hills of Old Kentucky Medley
-- Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, "On the Boardwalk" Track 7

And for all you listkeepers out there, some of the tracks were recorded at Evergreen Studio "A" (a quick web search suggests this is located in New York). Below are of the tracks I know of and their respective recording dates:

May 15, 1991:
- Beautiful Beulah
- Summer Magic
- Yankee Doodle

May 16, 1991:
- Flitterin'

August 29, 1991:
- Fortuosity
- Goodbye, My Coney Island Baby
- I Could Love a Million Girls
- In My Merry Oldsmobile
- Let's Have a Drink On It
- Mary's a Grand Ol' Name

Thank you for the great list! When I was trying to put the complete loop on CD a year or two ago, I wish I had the information you just posted.

Here's a question- Back in the days of a certain MP3 sharing program that shall remain nameless, I downloaded recordings of the Hello Dolly, Oklahoma, and Music Man medleys as they are played in the park. The list you just posted said they were all unreleased, so I wonder where these came from?

I was at WDW last week and took along my Main Street music cd. The three musical medleys I have on CD sound just like the ones in the park.

Thanks again for the great information!

Jason S.,

There's one discrepancy on that list. I have been struggling to put together a cd of the loop as well. I am quite familiar w/ all of the tracks, especially after having scouted around all of Main St. & the Hub for an "idea" live recording spot at the WDW MK several years ago; this was before the Forever system existed & before I learned of the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra's albums. By the way, it's easier to find one there than at DL, since it's hard to find a really secluded area on Main St. at DL where the sound's loud enough even at 8:00 a.m.

Anyways, Track 8 on the loop does not use the version of Aviation Rag recorded by the PRO on "The Whistler And His Dog". Unfortunately, I don't know what the source of that track is. :(

Jason,

I seem to recall seeing those tracks available on that certain MP3 sharing program in the summer of 2000. I was never able to connect and download them, though. There is a ton of underground master quality music out there, so it's not surprising that some would turn up on the Internet. I've never come across anyone who knows of the Main Street musicals being released commercially, so it being "leaked" material is most likely the case.

As for the Aviation Rag discrepancy, the PRO track is the one that's used, but it is edited. (Oh You Drummer! is edited as well.) I don't have the CD handy to check on the track to see approx. where the edits are, but it's definitely the PRO version.

It looks like I had a some type of copy/paste error in my last post... just replace "’" with an apostrophe, "– " with a dash, and "“" with a quotation mark and it'll all work out fine.

Now that this info is out there, I must ask, does anyone HAVE any of these recordings available to post somewhere or to trade? I'd love to get some of these loops.

Thanks

As far as availability of the Main Street stuff, most of the Broadway stuff is available on Audiogalaxy. I have been able to download the Hello Dolly music so far, but nothing else. Also, the Music Man Medley from WDW is posted right now on alt.binaries.multimedia.disney. Unfortunately, I have a 56K dial-up connection, so it's near impossible for me to get it. Anyone willing to send me a copy?

Most of the Space Mountain Concourse loop is also available on Audiogalaxy. The only things I could not find were the "We're Here to Change the World" instrumental and the Tomorrowland 2055 Fanfare. There is a track named Tomorrowland Theme , but I don't know if it's the same thing.

Anyone else have some tips on other places to get stuff?

Thanks for the help. I was hoping for some non-file sharing software solutions as my college has blocked the use of all of those applications. I can still access the newsgroups and FTPs though, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, I share your pain, as I can only access Audiogalaxy on my 56K connection, so it's really too slow to download much.

However, you can get the Music Man Medley on alt.binaries.multimedia.disney, and I'm sure if you request, the rest of the files will be posted.

Now, Jason or any of the rest of you, any idea on if the Frontierland stuff is needledrop or not? Also, what about the tracks on DL Forever listed as the BTM queue music that are not listed here? Are they wrong?
