I notice that Jay has [topic=4336]Disney Parks Holiday Medley CD[/topic] available for purchase via the site. I'm not familiar with many of the Christmas releases, so could someone clue me in regarding what's on this album, how much content is new vs. reused, etc?

(P.S. Jay, it would be nice to be able to reply to the topics you have in the "Music Notes" forum directly)

I picked this up last week and just compared it to the rest of my iTunes library last night. Of the 19 tracks on the CD, there are only five tracks that I don't already have on at least one previous Disney holiday CD release (and, to note, I'm not an avid collector of the holiday releases, yet one of the tracks, "Carol of the Bells" I have on four previous releases, not to mention as part of the Disneyland Forever system).

This CD is a real mish-mash of stuff, some tracks with character voices, others without. Some from the previous "Parks" releases ('Season of Song' and 'Christmas Around Our World') while most seem to be from previous non-park 'holiday' releases. Giving this the "Disney Parks" badge seems a little questionable - it'll lead people to assume (and I'm sure this is the point) that they are getting a CD of "the nice music I heard during our holiday visit" and, instead, they get Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, recycled from "The Muppets: A Green and Red Christmas"

None of it is new. It is all recycled material. :)

The CD has ZERO in the way of credits. Here is a list of performers that I came up with while going through Disney's previous holiday releases:

01. Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse / Toot Suite, Christmas Treats [0:02:09.47]
02. Donald Duck, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse / Santa Claus Is Coming to Town [0:01:35.60]
03. Rey Ramos / Jolly Old St. Nicholas [0:02:17.57]
04. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem / 'Zat You, Santa Claus? [0:02:32.56]
05. Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse / Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer [0:02:53.21]
06. ??? / Sleigh Ride [0:03:27.25]
07. Ludwig Von Drake / Jingle Bell Rock [0:01:48.26]
08. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem / Run, Run Rudolph [0:03:08.30]
09. Goofy / White Christmas [0:02:31.11]
10. Terry Wood / Snow in Arizona [0:03:50.52]
11. ??? / Here We Come A-Caroling [0:02:04.27]
12. ??? / A Holly Jolly Christmas [0:02:14.39]
13. Disney Holiday Chorus / We Wish You a Merry Christmas [0:01:44.01]
14. Holiday Orchestra / Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy [0:00:49.26]
15. Disney Dickens Christmas Carolers / Carol of the Bells [0:01:33.17]
16. Disney Dickens Christmas Carolers / Winter Wonderland [0:01:48.37]
17. American Vybe / Seasons of Love [0:03:04.27]
18. Belle and the Beast / A Gift to You [0:02:58.62]
19. Chris Martin / Stars [0:04:35.29]

The tracks marked ??? are uncredited session players.

What CDs was this one compiled from?

Not definitive, by any means, and I still can't track down the final track, "Stars," but here's the track list along with at least one previous source CD for each track. On some, I've listed multiple releases, but didn't do so with all tracks because, well, just how much OCD should I be showing here?

01. Toot Suite, Christmas Treats (Disney's Holiday Celebration 2007)
02. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (Disney Wonderful Christmas) – import – does this track appear on some domestic release?
03. Jolly Old St. Nicholas (Disney's Santa Sing-Along)
04. 'Zat You, Santa Claus? (The Muppets: A Green and Red Christmas)
05. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Disney Fairy Tale Holiday 2008)
06. Sleigh Ride (Disney's Holiday Celebration 2007 / Another Disney Christmas)
07. Jingle Bell Rock (Disney's A Season To Sing Along)
08. Run, Run Rudolph (The Muppets: A Green and Red Christmas)
09. White Christmas (Disney Fairy Tale Holiday 2008 / Christmas At Home)
10. Snow in Arizona (Disney’s Snowy Christmas)
11. Here We Come A-Caroling (Holiday Songs from 100 Acre Wood: A Pooh Christmas)
12. A Holly Jolly Christmas (Disney's Holiday Celebration 2007)
13. Wish You a Merry Christmas (Disney Christmas Favorites, Vol. 1 / Disney's Holiday Celebration 2007 / Disney's Favorite Christmas Songs)
14. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (Disney's Season of Song)
15. Carol of the Bells (Disney's Season of Song)
16. Winter Wonderland (Disney's Season of Song)
17. Seasons of Love (Disney's Holiday Celebration 2007)
18. A Gift to You (Beauty and the Beast Picture CD Sampler)
19. Stars (???)

I still can't track down the final track, "Stars," but...
Stars is from :) Disney's Holiday Sing-Along (2002 / Catalog # 60795). The CD is also the original source for Toot Suite, Christmas Treats. Others included on the album are Here We Come A-Caroling and A Gift to You.

You can also find Stars and a number of Disney songs on Buena Vista Records' gospel release :cd: Songs of Inspiration: A Celebration of Life! (2002 / Catalog # 860070).

So...exactly why did they label this a Parks CD? I guess the 3 tracks from the previous park holiday CD's counts? I think I'll skip out on this one. I'm sure none of these tracks play in the parks, not even the actual park tracks.

Is slapping the disney parks logo on something better or worse than slapping the magic kingdom logo on the disneyland album? :)

Hmm...I'd say "worse", only because hardly any of the music on this new CD is actually at the parks. So, it's misleading at best. The "Magic Kingdom" thing, although stupid, didn't take away from the fact that all of the music was stuff actually heard inside the parks. But, I have to say, seeing that "Magic Kingdom" font on there was pretty...interesting!

WDP&R can't sell CDs with the music for the Disneyland parades - not even "A Christmas Fantasy" - at the parks, but they will issue this stuff under the "Disney Parks" logo. WTF? :p

For the record, which 3 of the tracks are from a previous park holiday CD? The lists upthread all have pretty generic Christmasy titles so hard to tell what was a general release vs. park-ish release :)
