I just wanted to tell you all about the wonderful concert I attended on Saturday. The Virginia Symphony performed "The Magical Music of Walt Disney." They performed a short concert (about one hour) on Saturday afternoon and a longer concert on Saturday night. My husband and I attended the short concert and it was wonderful. They performed a "Disney Classic Overature" first which included the following: Zip Dee Do Dah from Song of the South, You Can Fly from Peter Pan, It's A Small World, So This Is Love from Cinderella, some other song from Alice in Wonderland, and The Mickey Mouse Club March from the series on TV. I can't remember now if there were any other songs in the first Overature. Then they performed the following: The Little Mermaid Orchestral Suite, Beauty & the Beast Suite, Aladdin Orchestral Suite and the Lion King Medley. They had two large screens which they showed clips from the movies, concept art for the films, etc., as they played the music. The night concert also included the Tarzan Suite, Suite from Hercules, Mary Poppins: A Symphonic Fantasy, Rescuers Down Under, Suite from Mulan, and The Hunchback of Note Dame Orchestral Suite in addtion to the selections from the afternoon concert, according to the program. I wish you all could have been there. I am sure that many of you would have loved it as much as I did. I really love that my husband took me, since he is not so much into the music of Disney like I am. I just thought that I would share my great experience. The symphony has performed this concert for the last few years, but I have not been able to attend. I hope to attend the night concert next year.
