Caribbean Plaza

Hello:

My copy of Steel Drum Festival arrived in the mail today! In a couple of older posts, this album was identified as one source for the old Caribbean Plaza music.

Here are my questions: Has anyone identified any additional albums that served as source material for Caribbean Plaza area music? Is any of the old steel drum music still used in Caribbean Plaza or Adventureland?

Thanks,

As I reported in a different thread, I noticed that an old steel drum loop is being used again in one seating area of El Pirata y el Perico. Someone suggested to me this loop is the same as one used in Tokyo Disneyland. I need to make a reference recording and compare it to the induction recording of the TDL loop to confirm this.

I was at the Magic Kingdom for about 45 minutes today and I noticed the steel drum loop is still playing. Shazam was able to ID one song (Trinidad Girl by Sparrow) but, unless my cuts of the TDL Adventureland loop are incorrect, this song is not included. I was hoping the WDW version was the same as the TDL version.

Doe anyone know if any of the steel drum tracks are also used at the Caribbean Beach Resort food court?

I love steel drum music. It always makes me feel like I am on vacation. Wedroy, is the copy of Steel Drum Festival that you got the one that is a live recording with 12 tracks that was done in 1996? I would love to get a copy of that CD too, but I don't want to buy the wrong thing. Any help identifying the CD better would be great so that I can look for a copy myself.

Yeah, it is twelve tracks. I am not sure what year the CD version of the album was released, but it is a live 1958 recording of the Stardust Band of Antigua.

However, to be clear, I do not know that this album is / was used in the Caribbean Plaza loop.

Even if it is just similiar to the music in Adventureland, I am sure that I will enjoy it. I have a couple of other Steel Drum CD's that I really like. Thanks for the clarification though.

If you don't have it already, you should try and track down "The Walt Disney World Adventureland Steel Band," information on which can be located here. You may also enjoy the works of the Trinidad & Tabago Showboat Steel Orchestra. I believe this group used to perform live at the Animal Kingdom.

Thanks Horizons. I constantly keep making my "want list" longer every time I read a reply from you. Was "The Walt Disney World Adventureland Steel Band" ever released on CD or was it only released on vinyl as seen in the link that you listed? I think I may have seen something from the Trinidad & Tabago group before. For some reason the name looks very familiar. I hope my mother-in-law comes through with my request for some gift cards for my birthday. Maybe I can pick up a copy of these somewhere.

Apologies for bringing up a two year old topic, but is there any evidence of "Steel Drum Festival" being played in Caribbean Plaza prior to the Pirates movie score loop being installed? If so, was the Caribbean Plaza steel drum loop sourced from any other music source besides "Steel Drum Festival"?

Thanks!

This may be of help for those of you still trying to identify Caribbean Plaza steelband songs. I took a look at the playlist online and I may have the answer to one of your unindentified tracks...

It always used to make me laugh that one of the songs in the loop was an instrumental version of Rita Marley's "One Draw," which was about smoking pot. As with all Caribbean music, it's possible that she picked up the melody from another song and wrote new lyrics. I haven't cross-checked against the identified tracks to confirm, but I see if I can find some time to do that.
