Bad Disney Music

Yeah, Bill, one of my CD "skeletons" is "En Scene S'il Vous Plait"...it's just so bad! Another is "The Official Album of WDW" from 1998...that was one of the worst OA's ever! Oh yes, and then we have "La Vida Mickey", "Mickey's Dance Party", and "Mickey Sports Songs"...

> ...I forgot one..."Dinosaur Song Factory"...Yuck!

That is the ONE and ONLY commercially-made-in-the-past-10-years Disney CD that I have REFUSED to buy .

"Climb the Mountain", with its catchy, addictive melody, is actually one of the songs I'd most like to see released on CD from the films/parks. I'm not sure of the exact meaning of the word "cheesy" other than it has some sort of negative connotation. I first heard that word at the college radio station I used to DJ at, used by a few of the "hipsters" to describe anything I played that *wasn't* loud, harsh, abrasive, hard, aggressive, unmelodic, or obnoxious. In short, my entire playlist! So when I hear that word it usually brings a positive connotation to my mind that I associate with a freedom from everything I dislike about music ;)

I love "Summer Magic" with it's beautiful female vocal and lush, gorgeous melody. I like it about 100 times better than "Femininity" and would love to see it released on CD one of these days! Like they say, I guess variety makes the world go 'round.

I think I'd really like to hear "Disney Handbells". Once. Just to see what they could have possibly done. And then never again. :)

It's funny seeing Oliver brought up--I recently dug up that CD for something, and remembered how much I enjoyed both "Good Company" and "Why Should I Worry?". The rest of it is pretty forgettable, though.

"En Scene S'il Vous Plait"...yeah, I picked that CD up in Paris after seeing the show, and don't even think the plastic's come off. What a weird show.

There are so many Japanese releases, which is great...but the sheer number means there will be some clinkers there, too. A lot of the newer "Eurobeat" stuff just does nothing for me.

Okay, I've read through this entire thread and there seems to be two kinds of posts: a) the "worst" song; and b) the song we can't stand to listen to ever again (but not necessarily bad).

To answer a), I would have to say the worst songs are:
The Computer Song
Strange Things (Toy Story)
Enjoy It! (ISO The Castaways)
The Droid Rooms

To answer b) the song I really never want to hear again (but not necessarily bad)

The one song that I will always skip/ff is MSEP. Although I love the parade, Baroque Hoedown has been so overplayed that I just cannot stand it any longer. It's not bad - it's not a favorite either - but repeated listening to a song that you don't have any "feelings" for just drives you crazy after a while.

Is it safe to come out yet? ::)

Heh...now you know how I felt when I dissed "Feed the Birds"! :)

Actually, your division between "truly bad" and "can't stand to listen to" makes a lot of sense. Even after all my griping about it, I'd put "Feed the Birds" definitely in the latter category--it's not a "bad" song, just really not my thing.

For "truly bad", I always come back to "Once Upon a Time in Anaheim", from the Disneyland 25th anniversary TV special. Even worse as sung by (if I remember correctly) Danny Kaye.

Oh, and "Fantasmic"--you hate A Christmas Fantasy? Wow, I love that song, even as repetitious as it gets in the parade.

I'm assuming you're referring to the Randy Newman Toy story tune.. It's pretty good, although I Will Sail No More is better... Anybody remember that old "Magic of Walt Disney World" special? That song got pretty annoying as well.

Was that the same song they used during the opening sequence of the "A Dream Called WDW" souvenir video from the 80's?

Although I would by no means consider it an all-time favorite of mine, I liked Strange Things too. It certainly wouldn't be on my worst list.
