Around the World Today + Disney Nights

Very odd question, didn't find an exact answer for it using search...

This is my first post on these forums. I posted the question I?m about to ask over on wdwmagic.com and not even they could give me an answer for it. They told me to post here as I?m told a lot of you are experts with lesser-known and very rare Disney music.

I have a question. I?ve been trying to find an answer to it for the better part of 20 years so this one will really, really be a test for true Dusney fans I think! If you can help out, please leave a reply post here. :)

Here?s the story..about 20 or so years ago, the in-room TVs in the Resorts used to have closed circuit Resort Information channels. One of the channels had something called ?Around The World Today?, which had opening and closing times for the parks, weather, ticket info..things like that. The music they had on that channel was 4-5 instrumental songs that used to loop over and over. They had a bit of a disco-y sound but they would definitely fall into the instrumental category. I loved those songs! Around 1990, ?Around The World Today? disappeared and I never thought I?d hear those songs ever again. I did, and I heard them in the place I very least expected to. I heard them 5 years later, in my PE health class Freshman year of High School! We had a substitute teacher one day and they put in a video called ?The Sports Channel? which was sports bloopers. It was a subscription bonus from Sports Illustrated or one of those. Anyhow, I recognized the songs as soon as I heard them and I yelled out ?My God I recognize those songs!? I nearly got a detention for that too! At that point I decided I would try to find those songs because I really wanted to have them on tape. I?m looking for the songs that were used about 20 years ago, not the more recent ones used in the last few years.

Also, in the early 90?s, there was a channel with a program called ?Disney Nights? on it that had a couple of Disney themes done jazz-style with the saxophone. They were instrumentals. The Jazz version of ?When You Wish Upon A Star? at the end of that program was brilliant. I loved those songs too and have been trying to find them for years. I haven?t had any luck AT ALL. :( That's how difficult it has been to find this stuff.

Here?s the question for the real Disney die-hard fans out there..does anyone know where I can find the old music from ?Around The World Today? or the Jazz pieces from ?Disney Nights?? If I can get them in .mp3s that would be terrific! I know this question is waaaay out in right field but I figure there has GOT to be someone who remembers this music too who might be able to help me find those songs or point me in the right direction. If I can get all or at least some of those songs it would end basically a 20 year search for that stuff. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and for anyone who can help! Again, if you think you can help out please leave a post here!

^Thanks for the reply..I'll see what I can do. It sure does sound like I'm trying to dig quite a ways back. I knew this was going to be difficult because of how far I'm trying to go back. But I figure some one has got to remember this. So if anyone else has any ideas or can miraculously point me in the right direction I'd be eternally grateful. Once again, even if I can only find some of this stuff I'll be happy with that because of how much time has passed.

...however, if this loop played in the early 1990's it's possible that Jack Wagner had a hand in it and used commercially available media music.

bh7812,

Walt Disney Records Japan (distributed by Avex Trax) has released a number of albums that fit your description. It is quite possible, along with the specially recorded tracks Bill mentions, that some may have been pulled from these releases.

One is called "Disney On Jazz" - this is more of a Big Band take on the Disney Classics ( I included a bad image just for reference below).

The Japanese have also released Marching Band, Classical Orchestra, Electone, and Orgel renditions of the classics.

All that is in addition to the artists Bill has mentioned. If you can't find the original tracks you've been looking for, you may discover a few new recordings as good if not better.

Happy hunting!

Randy, is that an angry Beethoven or is he merely rolling over?
