50th box set quality? any indications?

You would think and hope that the sound quality of this box set will be the gold standard. But does anyone know if Randy got all the access he wanted?

The reason I'm worried is I expected the best from the Haunted Mansion anniversary cd and then I heard the Grinning Ghost versions....what a difference!
GG I guess used some "state of the art" noise reduction software or something, but doing an A/B test between the two was incredible (on the attraciton ride through).

Should I assume Randy will be using this kind of software? and why didn't they use it on the HM release?

GG's version really is the best one I've heard... Interesting that it takes a serious fan of the attraction to make an ideal version....!

By the time GG's version came out I'd listened to so many friggin' versions of HM music and the song GGG, that I can't tell the difference anymore. I know there are people that love the Mansion (OK I'm one of them) but I think I've heard enough Mansion music to last me the rest of my life. It's probably the most widely distributed of all attractions, audio wise, and couldn't interest me less nowadays.

Don't know why I felt the need to vent- just thought ya'd all like to know. No, that's not true. I knew you wouldn't care.

I think its silly to speculate about the sound quality of the 50th anniversary set... its much more fun to speculate about the contents. I have faith in Randy.

As for X-S's comments, I found them refreshing, and I have to admit, I feel the same way about HM: Love the attraction, sick to death of the attraction audio. Of course, the general public will want a ride-through, and I would be shocked if there wasn't one on the 50th anniversary set, but that's so far off the bottom of my want-list that I can't even see it. I have the red-dot cd that I bought in the park years ago, and that's good enough for me.

Unfortunately, the only access Randy got was to live recordings of the rides. Some imagineer tape recorded them when he was little and some as an adult. You can hear his voice in some recordings, but Randy tried to edit them all out. And Randy reduced the hiss from the tape. You can still hear a lot of hiss thru the box set, but this was the only way he could released them. He didn't have access to any master material. He did use songs from the previously released official albums to patch up some parts where the tape noise was unbearable. This is not exactly what Randy had in mind, but at least you will feel like you are there. The Inner Space live recordings are really rough and it's sometimes hard to make out any music, but at least this ride-thru was included considering it has never been released in any form.
They were forbidden to use any recordings of the Haunted Mansion or Pirates because of legal issues since it was already released on CD. In it's place, cover versions of songs are being used (Yo Ho by Pointer Sisters and GGG by Barenaked Ladies). Randy did the best that he could with the budget he got. They just didn't think that it would sell to much. I'm still looking forwards to buying this. All the live recordings (which make up 95% of the 6 CDs) are previously unreleased. Some people might complain that these are below Disney standards for quality, but I think they are just starting a new trend of collecting live recordings of things that don't exist anymore. For example, I would love to hear live recordings of animal sounds from the San Diego Zoo from the 60s era. If you are a fan of live Rock music recordings, then you can appreatiate capturing the sounds in the moment...

PS: They've already printed the artwork calling it A Musical Tour... Originally they thought they would be able to include more music. The title will remain the same though.

I agree! I hope that there was some professional embarassment over this and maybe they would give Randy all the access he wants! I guess no one has any info on it here.

Sorry if this thread upset any of you (I thought forums were for "silly speculation"!).

Many of you that have responded have been very helpful to me in the past (and polite!). Sorry!

Sorry Skoolpsyk, if my post offended. It wasn't meant that way. My rant was supposed to be completely self sufficient and had nothing to do with any of your specific comments, only with Mansion audio in general. Feel free to post about whatever you like. God knows I've posted sillier stuff than anything in this thread.

I didn't mean to offend, either. This has turned out to be an interesting and entertaining thread. Louis had me going there...

Cheers

I cant talk for anyone at WDR, but my guess is that the box set will be top notch in quality....why waste the time otherwise?

I guess I was just hoping for some reassurance after getting burned by the HM cd. I payed $30 for it and assumed that it was the ultimate only later to find out it wasn't. With this 6 cd set, I'm a little hesitant to drop any big $$. But I'm optimistic; I just thought there would be people in the know here that would tell us what we all want to hear: the lawyers gave Randy an all access pass to every loop ever recorded!

With that I would like to put an end to this thread. It didn't go the way I anticipated. The speculation on quality and content (especially with the relation to the HM cd) is currently going on in the other thread: "all this talk about 50th cd"; see you there!

OT: Does anyone else HM make a slight Pop before some tracks? I have purchased two of the Haunted Mansion CD's, and they both have the same problem. Both are brand new, not a scratch on em...

As far as I'm concerned ANYTHING Randy produces for us is a home run. Heck,I've listened to the OA's I have that he's done & compared them to earlier stuff NOT put out by him & & Randy's work puts other albums to shame
